View Full Version : Am I the only one?

So I love a good HK martial arts film (nevermind John Woo's HK work). But am I the only one who's a hopeless strumpet for American martial arts movies? (I say "American" but really, if it's got Van Damme, Olivier Gruner, or Gary Daniels, you could make the argument that it's not really American. But you know what I'm saying.)
Rather than list a top ten favorite films, most of which are simply titled by slapping a dangerous sounding adjective with a noun (e.g., Vengeful Vengeance), how about a list of stars whose work I shamefully enjoy.
Presented in no particular order (but with varying degrees of shame and repentance):
1) Olivier Gruner
2) Gary Daniels
3) Michael Worth
4) Bryan Genesse
5) Mark Dacascos
6) Richard Norton
7) Jerry Trimble
8) Loren Avedon
9) Lorenzo Lamas (perhaps the most shameful of all)
10) Don Wilson (nope, I was mistaken; THIS is the most shameful one of all. I can't stand Don Wilson and yet still I rent his movies)

Strumpet? Did someone say strumpet? Sorry, I would like to know the reference of your name? Where'd it come from? Thanks, PM me if you'd rather not do it openly.

What about Cynthia Rothrock? The list isn't complete without her!

Yeah, good call. Her American films are completely atrocious. But she definitely belongs on the list.
And Keith (Hirabayashi) Cooke. He hasn't done many films, but he belongs on the list. Love that guy.

What, apOweyn? No worries. It's the old Welsh version of my surname. The 'ap' being 'of' in the same way as 'mc' or 'o' in Scottish or Irish surnames. 'Son of Oweyn.'

That list isn't shameful!! That is the hardcore, the terrible, and the straight-up cult. Embarrassing is "The Tuxedo." Shameful is any American made Jet li movie.
Your stars are trashy gold.

Thanks. :)
Agreed. The Tuxedo was pretty shameful stuff. And as much as I try to enjoy Jet's American stuff, it falls short. No question.

I'm worried about you. Clearly this is a Primal Cry of Pain by a person hurting on the inside.
Seek Psychiatric Help now, before it's too late!

Oh you don't know the half of it, mate. I even watch the likes of Jeff Wincott and Jalal Merhi left to my own devices. Help me.

He does look a bit like Brandon Lee. It's no wonder they both played The Crow at different times.
