Hi, I have here a very rare discussion about kicks in MA but anyway have you noticed that some kicks like Jean Claude Van Damme's roundhouse kick, a snap kick which goes all the way through the opponent just seems to knock him backwards whereas a snap kick which is snapped back has enough power to drop the opponent and make him bleed. The same goes for punches too the famous one inch punch and the snappy backfist to the face......any suggestions or comments?
Thanx for your time

Hi Cain_Charlie,

The variations you mention produce different effects on the target as you describe. The effect you want to create will depend on the circumstances you find yourself in;

Sure you might be able to knock a guy across the room with a follow through type of impact, but the downside to this, is that he may just come right back at you, or worse still you will miss, as these techniques are easier to see coming. Oh, and guess what....you're now off balance and vulnerable.

Snappy, surface impact strikes, can have a shocking impact, yet the effect varies from person to person. One guy will scream for his momma, the other guy will smile and ask you 'Is that all you got?'

Just a few thoughts.

I agree with Andy (nothing new here eh lol). Circumstances definitely control what type of strike to use. Some make the "push" strikes more effective, where in others you may need a fast, penetrating strike. This also depends on where you are striking on the body, and how much damage yuo want to do to that particular area.
