VT, Whats up with Norton?

Kazaa Media Desktop is riddled with Spyware. Kazaa Lite is OK, but thats out of action as far as I know.

AOL
Real Player
Gator
Anything that pop's up on a website and asks you to download it

Oh yeah, and anything made by Microsoft. Especially Windows :D

I know very little of PC's etc.

What is wrong with RealPlayer?

What about RealDownload?

If these are nasty, do I simply unistall them?

And what about all the unwanted nasties that will be left behind? How do I get rid of those?

And am I asking to many questions? Including this one? And this one? And this one? And this one? etc.

RealPlayer, RealDownload and all the other Real products are usually jam packed with spyware. Spyware is something that collects information about you, and passes it back to a specific company. You can usually remove the spyware usually without harming the program, but sometimes it won't function without it.

You can remove the nasties by using this product. http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

Any more questions? :D

Thanks very much KGirl!

I'm sure I've got other things that I have been meaning to ask but they escape me at the mo.

Cheers.

I can't stand any of them. Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Internet Security, Norton System Works.... yach!

They just take over. They think they're the most importment thing on your PC, they slow down your system, hassle you relentlessly. And scream "LOOK!! I'M HERE!!!" and "DONT DO THAT!! COME BACK AND LOOK AT ME!!"

Ehhh

Real is the same. They never leave you alone.

They think that the only reason you have a PC is to use their software (Real and Norton).

Plus they needlessly slow the system down. Agh.

LOL! :D That post made me laugh. I guess it is true, especially with Real, its such an attention whore of a program .

Norton keeps trying to let this program called Norton Intergrator through my firewall. I've blocked it so far and Norton has worked fine. Any idea what it is? It bugs me every time I run it.

I think it's a single control panel for most of the norton products in one.

Not sure though.

AOL is the only one I can think of. As for Norton and RealPlayer, you just have to know how to wipe those program into shape. With a few registry modifications and some hex editing. Those programs won't be saying "LOOK!! I'M HERE!!!" anymore. They will be saying "Thank you Sir, may I please have another."

I also have to comment on the bashing of Windows. Besides the fact that most bashers are typing on Windows machines. Why all the hate? Think of a world without Windows. For one, we can say that Windows as standardized the PC OS's market. Without that, we would be limited on what programs we could run due to the OS we used (Hint: Mac's). I know linux is gaining popularity, but it is still very much limited.

Let me bring up another story, most of you understand what I mean when I saw a Qwert keyboard right. Well, how many of you know that the Qwert keyboard is a flawed design. This desing was specifically made to slow typing down. Back when type writers were used, typing to fast could cause the machine to break. I forget who, but the created the qwert keyboard to slow down most typist by about 1/2 of what the previous design allowed. You would related qwert keyboard's to Windows as it is unefficent in some ways and that it is a 'monopoly' of sorts. Why not dislike qwert keyboards's then?

Sorry, just one of the topics that really gets me fired up. The other one is when people misuse the word communism.

I really dislike qwerty keyboards, actually. The dvorak configuration is much better--at least, for those of us who can't afford a datahand system.

You don't have to pay a licensing fee for qwerty, though.

That shoud not be nessesary. I'm not going to use those programs because I have to do some hex and reg editing to have them run the way I want to.

If have to do that, then stuff 'em.

If they piss me off, then too bad. I move on. Bad luck to them. They should fix it if they want me to use their software, not I.

Windows bashing? Where?? I did see one joke about it... but bashing??

I know linux is gaining popularity, but it is still very much limited.

Limited? Hohoho, no no no ;)

I would say it's quite the opposite, and not limited enough

Mabye Hex editing is a little extreme, but you can do some cools things with hex. :)

Sorry I had to pick on KGirls comment about Windows, it was also due to comments in other threads. I just picked this thread cause it was breaking point. :D

Yes, linux is very powerful. When I say limited, I mean in user accessebility. You complain about having to do hexing editing, but you sometimes have to do much more complex stuff to get linux working how you want it or run the program you want to. I am a gamer, thats probably why I stick up for Windows. Believe it or not, even with the overhead that Windows has, it still outperforms linux in many things, such as most games (when linux will run it). If you want to mold a OS how you want it, linux is the best thing, I mean its open source what more can you say. For everyday use and activities, it is more efficent to spend you time being efficent then to waste time trying to get you OS to do what you want.

If you really want to be powerful, you only need two keys on the keyboard. A big 1 and a big 0, you can control the computer in binary. Beat that linux. ;)

Linux is the wrong OS for gaming and home usablitity, when a sw company creates a new s/w their first concern is creating the proggy for windows ;)

Get used to it, I do it all the time, and I enjoy it so won't stop :D Incidently, I do run Linux (RH9), but am confined to using Windows for the time being since I had a little "accident" involving my hardware modem, and a rather heavy PC :D

I actually did my MSc thesis on Open Source vs Proprietary software, so could go off on a huge rant about either one. Fact is, if I want a desktop system, I'd run Windows. If I want a server, I'd run Linux. They both have their uses for various things, no one is really better than the other.

Maybe becuse most games are programmed in DirectX, that is Windows Only. with games that are programmed in OpenGL Linux destroys Windows, for example Unreal Tournment 2k3.

See the thing you are missing is Linux requires an opeator. Someone to use the OS. Windows is more of an armed guard between you, and your computer, Linux is a guide.
