ok it's my 100th post
i try to make sensible to think about, to read, to write.... :D
so wat should we talk about...? ummm........
SUBJECT : weapons defense- how much truth, how much fairy tale?
so it's all about weapons, defending against weapons...
do u think the drills u hav pulled up in ur class r good enuff to go u against blade? normally the kind of drills r done in class r not powerfull enuff and when u encountre seomone with kinfe u realise how much power a simple looking stab can hav, sometime piercing ur block/defense too... do u think u r mentally good to handle this situation??
i hav one of my senior mate got stabbed three times in her abdomen, i think she's pretty damn tough girl, she survived and got back in class after 2 months... she had the same guy down in seconds when he was not armed with knife but next time while he was armed she couldn't...she told "i couldnt see it coming"...
i think in here she survived due to her Strong will rather than her Martial arts, yup she hav drilled enough on knifes...but still...
a lesson for her a lesson for all of us in class...
so that makes me wonder how much is this of reality...???
a blue belt should hav defended easily...??
it happend around 8 months back...this sort of things don't happen much in my area...but now it's started...
so i need ur inputs regarding weapons n weapon handling...
thnx...

Knowing the theory of defending against weapons is better than not knowing. Being overconfident about it and deliberately provoking someone with a knife because you think you can handle it is at best insane. If someone attacks you with a weapon and you have no idea what to do you're going to get sliced up, if you know the basics of what to do then at least you've got a chance.

If your opponent knows how to use their weapon then they will catch you, its your job simply to minimise the injuries.

Here's an idea try to train against someone with a knife who if trying to kill you (use a blunt or rubber knife). This should give you a better idea of the situation.

It's mainly the theory of defending against weapons that are useful rather than the specific tehcniques. If your opponent has a knife then when they attack they will back swing (other wise there is no force or speed) so move in and grab the knife hand.

If you have shoes on stand back and kick the crap out of them.

Or better yet run away or find someone heavy to throw at them.

Congrats Tkdwarrior on your century that one was quite fast...I saw ur forums I must admit it was really fast and that also with reasonably sensible forums. On your subject I would like to say that find a weapon yourself.....If you can't then give it your best shot, kick him in the shins grab, poke or punch his groin, hair, leg throat etc and not to be too concerned about your own safety but fight with a presence of mind I mean don't just go around like a charging mad bull, but be at your violent most because if this guy's got a knife then he certainly is a threat to your life and since you have only one life, you must do your best to take care of it. apart from the pep talk just keep your distance [I mean it because experienced knife fighters are very good]. Make fake lunges at them and feints occasionally to cause that 1/4th of a second precious distraction to disarm him. Also remember that a knife fighter who makes short flicks is muck more dangerous than a lunging madman with a knife
Hope I don't sound dumb
