This may help...

When dealing with weapons is aikibudo more of a contact sport or is it more kata practice and pretty much never any dueling?
are open hand techniques combined in the weapon fighting?
ive seen they teach both aspects but do they combine both in dueling? (if there are any duels that is?!!?)

O Sensei called his art aikibudo before he called it aikido, a lot of the moves are the same I think.
I don't think you will see much bokken or jo contact sport in any art. Interesting idea though.
Not much duelling either, except of course on the forums.

So far as I know Aikibudo translates into something like "The Way Of War" or "The Way To Fight", (I could be wrong). Aikido is generaly translated as "The Way Of Harmony". In anycase the primary difference between the two arts, so far as I know is the underlying phylosophy.

ok I always thought O Sensei came up with the name Aikibudo before Aikido. Apprently it was some french guy according to the history section of www.aikibudo.com ... sigh ... this is why I never liked history.

aikibudo is pre ww2 aikido and very straight to the point, after ww2 o sensie started teaching the sort of aikido you see to day which has a lot bigger circles and is also a lot softer, from what i have read anyway
