Bit of an unusual question here. I have trained in Jiu Jitsu for about 7 years now. I do note however that I have a physiological issue with Jitsu. One which I share with a lot of people. Obviously bending at the knees is essential in our art. I find however that once I start bending, my heels come off the floor. This means that a lot of hip throws are performed on the balls of my feet. It doesn't cause me any problems necessarily.
I had a mate who did some yoga and he brought the movement up...He could remain on the full length of his feet...I couldn't. Apparently it is quite common. Has anyone else experienced this. Do you see it as a problem... stand in a hip throw stance and see how far you can bend down before your ankles come off the floor.
Cheers

my sensei encourages pupils to enter on the balls of your feet as he says it makes for a faster and more powerful throw.

A lot of the top judo people seem to do this, so I wouldn't worry. It's more to do with keeping control.

Cheers lads
Hi guys im new to this forum :) !! when i tend to go into a throw i do use my balls of my feet the reason being its quicker to go in another move if the throw you go into messes up eg go in for ipon se onage then turn into sumi geishi (please excuse the spelling)! but thats the way i feel comfortable if you feel comfortable doin it flat footed then do it flat footed.
if any 1 disagrees by all means tell me to shut up hehehe :D

yea its natural to go onto the balls of ur feet as its quicker, u will get more power and u will have more controil over the throw. its just common sense.

I would think that it would develop less power since everyhting has to come through that extended ankle joint... I have a similar problem with front kicks that I am working on now...

no it will develop speed and with speed comes power plus if u go in flat footed your opponent has the chance to counter you as you ill be alot slower.
