How long do you think it takes to become proficiant in Brazilian Ju Jitsu. I train 2 days a week for an hour. I am very eager to learn.

Different for different people.
Huge differences in that, all depends on the person, the instructor, the training partners, attitude, training methods and a bunch of other things.

^ he's right.
However, since you want a more specific answer, I'd say at least 2 years.

It also depends on what you call "proficient"

At 2 hours a week it will take some time to get whatr would be considered good by BJJ standards. I would check with class mates to see if any want to get togheter and work out/roll on what you are learning. It will help speed up your progress if you can increase to 6 - 8 hours a week.

it takes a lot of practice and sparring to become proficient in BJJ. the more mat time you have, the better you become, just like a pilot, the more flight time he has, the better he becomes

After three weeks you can already have some fun with newcomers of similar size and strength.
Proficiency is something else.

asking how long it takes to become proficient in something strikes me as an exceedingly strange question, and clashes with my beliefs that there are no stupid questions..
how long does it take to lean the piano?
