Welcome to MAP. :)

Wesley Snipes studied primarily Capoeira, and did so for at least a decade. He know studies the Shaolin arts. I think his teacher is Shi Yan Ming, who is based in New York, but I am not 100%. Most of his movie stuff is simply that, movie stuff, but he does make it look good.

Some schools do not compete because they feel there is too much risk of seriously injuring either your opponent or yourself. Jujutsu for example has alot of locking techniques foir example, which are designed to seriously injure someone, and you can't really pull (hold back) techniques like that, so it kind of detracts from the learning experience if you cannot use them. you run the risk of picking up bad habits. Having said that though, schools may say that just to sound more deadly. Talk is cheap.

Anyway, I sent you an email in reply to the one you sent me. hopefully you will understand where I was coming from. Like I said in that though, go and try it out and see if it works for you, if not, move on.

Capoeira is true. Watch Blade and its sequel to see him bust some capoeira moves.

I think you're right though that he's got some karate and perhaps taekwondo experience. Can't remember specifically.

His friend, training partner, and choreographer is Jeff Ward, who's primarily a pekita tersia (eskrima) teacher. That's where Snipes gets much of his swordwork, for starters. So he's got some FMA in his repetoire as well.
