I was wondering what eveyone's thoughts were on Defendo. I am looking for H-2-H CQC system. I live in the Chicago area and wanted to know if this is something to look into.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

There was a good article in one of the 2003 issues of Eye Spy magazine about Defendo. See if you can track it down via their web site:

Hope this helps a bit!

For the record is the british hand to hand combat style taught to the armed forces as a friend and respected MA instructor is a teacher of it.

Its a british thing and doubt there will be anything in the states unless its and ex student or someone who has just copied the name. Its good though and simple.

There was a big Defendo seminar in Canada last year, theres a guy there that trained under the guy who created it (Bill Underwood I think).

It might be the most effectiove and easiest to learn system ever devised but that name does not convey any of that. It sounds like a video game or maybe what my 4yr old nephew might call his invented style of martial arts. I'm not trying to disparage it just opinting out that it is a silly name :D

As there is an empasis on empty hand techniques with a fair bit of it so you dont nacker your trigger finger up for shooting!!!!

Its pretty simple and seems to work but don't think the name is great but still at least it seems to work.

Greetings,

I'm currently studying defendo in Toronto (see www.defendo.ca for info), as created by Bill Underwood for special forces in WWI and II and then taught to FBI and other law enforcement agencies. It originated in Britain, but the main instructors are now living in Toronto, Canada. New places of teaching are cropping up in the UK and I'm sure the US will follow. See July cover of Martial Arts Illustrated.

Having studied a variety of martial arts for over 20 years I find Defendo to be a fantastic system for CQC that can be easily learned. One of my fellow students is a police officer covering an inner city area resulting in regular altercations - he now uses Defendo exclusively in place of his previous martial arts experience.

peace to you,

Rick

No worries. Basically, it just means martial arts with a military slant in this context. (Though I think they use the term in the military for clearing buildings with shotguns and submachine guns etc. In other words, it doesn't specifically refer to melee.)
