Hello everyone,

I am currently acting alone in my trainings, due to a few dojo's in my area having to many students, i refuse to join a commercialized "business". I am beginning with Taihenjutsu, the only problem i have now is, i dont know any of the beginning ceremonies, such as bows, yells, or chants. If anyone can help me in this category i would be most welcome. Plus, i will be actively posting my day to day training and journal.

You say you refuse to join a commercialized business. Well there is nothing wrong with a well run business.
My Instructor pays £360.00 minimum per month just to train privately with his Instructors. This enables us to get the best possible training.
Then you have the cost of the training facility, rates, water, gas, electric, insurance. Even renting halls can be expensive.
Next comes all the necessary equipment required. This is a must have because new students (and some existing) do not have their own gear.
Next comes the cost of advertising, websites do not come cheap, especially if it is done professionally. Printing of business cards, headed and footed paper, leaflets and so on.
After you have done that there is the uniform. Not just a case of phoning the printer. Someone has to pay to have proofs set up, plus the initial outlay of training tops, bottoms, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies etc.

So don't think we go along to class for a few years, get a black belt, open up a class and sit back and count the cash. I (and I bet many others) have offered to teach students who are short of money for free. I would rather they were there learning.

So all that said get your butt into a proper class. I tire of saying this. You cannot teach yourself Martial Arts.

The foundation is all important and if the foundation is weak the building will wobble and fall down.

2. The ceremonies are unimportant*; I agree, you should work on your taihenjutsu.

(*I will teach you one chant that might help you. Are you ready? Repeat for 1 hour upon waking and before sleep: "Mom, please drive me to a real dojo." )

Find a school or don't bother. I'm not aware of anyone who has ever successfully taught themselves a martial art from books/videos - you wont be the first.

I am from Sacramento Ca. You have made valid points, i have a good foundation in martial arts disciplines, i agree i lack the experience in ninja, but i truly believe i can make this happen, with only minimum help.

No you can't.

My Instructor is awesome, he still goes to his Instructor, who is even more awesome. He in turn still goes to his Instructor, who is off the scale.

No one can teach themself a new system, I don't care how good you are at other Martial Arts, it can't be done.

I live in Sacramento and train here. If you wish to train, there are plenty of good options at reasonable prices.

This is a good start, its run by a student (godan+) of a certain Mr. Molitor, and is my primary training spot.
