I'd like to know what others use as their ready (fighting) stance. Ours is one hand clenced in a fist drawn back, the other is open and held out chest level. I've read this is NOT a preferred stance as it can give your opponent a point of reference to work around. That it is better to hold the guard back closer to the chest.

Opinions?

If your sparring, you have to watch your opponent and predict what he's going to open with and how you'll counter. Or, if your an attacker, know how you will spring out of the ready stance. No matter what position you take, your opponent will have an opening.

I keep both hands open and up in front of my face with one leg in the front and back so that i can lock the opponet easier, and somtimes to punch.
