I've been far too busy with my new job to organise one this year.
If anyone else would like to arrange something, I'll be happy to attend and assist a little, but right now I have very little free time.

There's been at least one American MAP Meet but it needs an American to organise it - and America's much bigger than the UK!
Volunteers?

I have organised a MAPmeet for Indian Wells, Arizona, in 2 days.
I'll meet you at the city border. I'll be in a fluorescent orange catsuit. You can't miss me :D
Saz related EDIT:
Must have GSOH, decent job and handsome jawline. No timewasters please
Why does that come across as sounding a bit like a personal ad?

+1 vote for a NORTH American MAP meet (don't forget about us Canucks!). Whatever happened to that one that was supposed to be in Winnipeg a while back?

Omi - think there was a problem with the organisers of the Winnipeg meet so thats why that didn't go ahead.
Shame nobody is planning a UK meet this year - its the first year I can actually get to a meet regardless of where it is in this country :(

Was that the sound of you thus volunteering to organise it as well?

Im quite suprised theres no one on here that has a regular hall or class set up that would do it, it would be a shame if there wasnt one this year as theyre usually very good and raise a decent bit of money for charity.
Heres hoping something comes through!

I'm gonna risk sounding stupid and ask how hard it would be to set up a uk meet? As far as I'm aware MAP's used Bracknell for the last few years and its seems to have become a normal thing now. So other than phoning and booking a hall, scraping the money to do so, making a thread listing when, and getting the charity link set up what do you have to do normally?
Did say I was going to sound naiive

You've got most of it. You need to get people more interested in it than I managed the last couple of years (i.e. advertising), you need to sort out some public liability insurance, get instructors to agree to teach, get instructors to agree to teach at the same time as other instructors they want to train with, print programmes, sort out any equipment needed.
It's probably not a lot of organisation for someone with good time management skills...

Thats me screwed.....
I really enjoyed the meet last year and it'd be a shame not to have another one so I'd be happy to try and sort one out but I would probably need help. If nothing else do companies give insurance like that out to minors?

Booooo! That's too bad.
I'm almost done my semester at school, so I'll soon have copious amounts of time to organize things...I'd be willing to poke around and at least do a bit of preliminary research about venues and such to hold one in these parts, but I don't know how many MAP'ers we have who would be able to make it out to this neck of the woods...
EDIT: but hey, if we were good enough for the Olympics, maybe we're good enough for a MAP meet...

I'd get cash up front to be honest.
I've been to a couple of internet gatherings and you always end up with less people than you think will turn up.
Make it near-ish to York and I'd be up for it. :)

York, you say? Better for me - closer to my end of the country :)
And John, no its not an offer to organise a meet. I'm having enough trouble working out how I'll have enough time to run another forum if I get back into my MAP groove!

I could offer to organise one in the UK on a couple of provisos
It's going to be cash in advance.
It's going to be in the Midlands not somewhere stupid down south.
I get some input from previous organisers just so I know what to expect.

Looks good.
Could all be done via a justgiving page (with regard to finances) triple on the door and all money goes to charity and event cancelled if a minimum no. of attendees via justgiving is not met.

If you address the actually turning up bit then you'll still have to get your own wardrobe ideas laddo, the orange catsuit is mine. Don't make me post the pictures again, some folks on MAP are not tough enough to withstand the horror....

Does anybody like to get together between 5/1 and 11/1 this year in Dinosaur Cave Park, Shell Beach, California (where highway 101 merges with highway 1 on the coast line)? It's a beautiful place to work out (I'm looking for a training partner in those 6 months).

midlands, why this is good news if that can be done :D, saves the long unispiring journey to bracknell, wherabouts you thinking in thinking in west mids?
hope this can be done, though unofrtunately the closest i have to an orange catsuit is a wrestling singlet, could always cut the crotch out? watch this space.
itll be good to get some of the northerners there as every year theres been too many no's for it being down south so should be good balance if the idea gets off the ground.

Any news on this? I keep meaning to make one of these, but haven't managed it yet.

That sounds a lot more complex than throwdowns on Bullshido (which in terms of organisation are pretty easy: find a gym, turn up, pay mat fee). Though I guess unsurprising, as presumably the intention is more of a general martial arts event rather than just a chance to roll with some people off the internet?
If it was just a matter of people turning up to roll, then I could organise it (which would be very simple, as that would just involve asking my instructor "can anyone turn up to the open mat on Sundays?", or failing that, going here (http://www.slideyfoot.com/2010/04/24042010-southend-throwdown.html) again).

Probably more a size thing I imagine I went to the last one and the hall was kinda big for the people and remembering there were 3 seperate arts going on at any one time. Also it lasts a good few hours which i imagine is more than most gyms would accept as "rolling time".
That said I'm always up for getting my ass handed to me if someone sets something up

True, there aren't normally too many people at the throwdowns I've been to (http://www.slideyfoot.com/search/label/Throwdown): ranges anywhere from five to twenty, but recently it has tended to be at the lower end of the scale. Generally it's meet up and roll for three hours, then go to the pub.

Struggling to find it with the search button. Thinking back it may have been a striking one but I think everyone was pretty open about it and punching each other in the face is still fun

Heh - I'm very much a BJJer now, so no more getting punched in the face for me. I had enough of that during my undergrad and MA at university, when I did ZSK (http://www.zskchinesekickboxing.com/social_archive).

''Details, map etc can be found here: http://www.stevenageleisure.co.uk/Ce...7/Default.aspx
Sunday 24th of October 2pm - 4.30pm (we could run over if nothing else is booked in after us but the mats are needed for a jiu jutsu class next door starting at 5pm)
Costs are £20 per hour for the room, which will be shared equally amongst the attendees. 2.5 hrs is booked @ £50.''
The southern meets were primarily for the KF guys but that has been opened up to anyone. No one has to do anything LOL. Some come and mix it up doing stand up, others ground only and some do combos of both. In the start there were some KF guys who had done other stuff so there were BJJ guys as well as Muay Thai guys who had a kung fu background attending. I think that since there was a mix showing up it was decided that why not just let anyone come. People say what they want to work on and then opponents magically appear :' ). Certainly gives some perspective to those who had come before seeing what others do whether ground or stand up oriented.
I am sure everyone would be welcome. This is about trying stuff out and not killing each other so it tends to be a win win situation for all concerned.
Best to talk to cloudz if interested. Will see you there if I am not too busted up from rugby the day before.
