Gotta say Chuck is what every Martial artist should aspire to be.........someone who puts back in every thing he got out and more. Humble, respectful and intelligent enough to use his fame to do good things for kids etc. A good role model!

I think if we could pick a role model for children we couldn't do any better than him.... He does alot for kids and charities that most people wouldn't do. He is definitely a good example of a decent human being, and excellent martial artist.

Well he is a good one for adults as well.
As you all said Humble, respectful and intelligent enough to use his fame to do good things for kids, against drugs, helps troubled teens, brought mack martial arts into places gangs didnt want it.

To me he is one of my role model. I have a lot of respect for him and wish him the best. I just wish someday to shake his hand :-)

Yip, what does one say about the "Teacher of the Teachers".
A great guy, who fulfills every good moral, spiritual and physical aspiration of us ordinary Martial Artits.

I am really interested in his "KICK DRUGS OUT OF AMERICAN SCHOOLS" campaign which I think started in 1992 (Yea, I know we are behind the times in South Africa) Can any body fill me in on some detail;s concerning this campaign.???????

Yours in the Spirit of Budo

Well the KDOOA campaign is a program that Mr Norris started on August 16, 1990 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This effort of Mr. Norris and him people was helped with the actions of Former President Bush.

KDOOA was set up in inner city schools so that they can try their best to keep kids away from drugs and out of gangs and trouble through martial arts. When students join the program, they earn the right to belong to the Chuck Norris Team - "T" for truth, "E" for esteem, "A" for attitude, "M" for motivation.

The Foundation currently operates primarily in inner city public schools full time as an elective or PE class. They are not a franchise, nor are they affiliated with any commercial karate schools.

To read more visit their site. www.kdooa.org

I hope i got all the info right on here

Thanks for the info. I have tried for some time now to contact "KDOOA", but to no avail. I would love to start something akin to this in South Africa, and boy, do we need it here.
I would like it to be with Mr Norris' blessing, after all, its his creation.
Can anyone help.

Thanks chazz 98001.

Mr. Norris is also the reason I got started in the martial arts, at one of his schools in Va Beach. I have the utmost respect for him, one of the few martial artists who, what you see on screen, is what you get off screen.

Great role model...great martial artist.
His book, The Secret of Inner Strength" really helped me get ready for my first dan test...After I read the part where he failed his first test and had to go back...I thought to myself...Chuck Norris? How could you fail Chuck Norris...haha

He has always stayed in shape...and has always expanded his knowledge of the arts...
He looks better than most of us ever could want to be...:)

I've met him two times at MA conventions and I couldn't say enough about him. One of his seminars was sold out and I told him how much I regretted not being able to hear him speak. He told me to follow him. He had me walk into the banquet room with him and got me a seat right up front off to the side. It truly was one of the high points of my martial arts experience, short tho it may be.

I never met the guy in person, so I wouldnt say anything about his personality, but as a amature martial art stuntman I can't stand him on TV. His movies really blows in everyway. Bad technique, sloppy kicks, and come on his so old...... No body wants to see an old guy doing his stiff verison of spinkick. Did you guy see his kicks, and footwork in Return of The Dragon (with Bruce Lee)? Is really pityful to watch. I can't believe he claims that he showed Bruce Lee how to kick. Anyway don't curse at me for saying this:P I'm sure his a perfect gentlemen, since theres so many of you to back it up. I'm just speaking in a film perspective, and what I though of him through his movies.

Let's just hope people think as highly of you when you reach the same age Andy. ;)

The best fighters don't always look good on Camera.

Yeah I know what you mean, aging suck, and not being able to do the move you once had it suck even more, but chuck norris never look any good on camera even when he was younger, so I'm not attacking his age. Yeah fighter, movie fighting is completely different thing.

So all you are saying is that he doesn't look good on Camera?

I think Chuck's moves [onscreen] are more about being "Real" than being "Cool". Unfortunately, movie audiences aren't really paying $7 to see something "Real"...

The Octagon

Invasion U.S.A

Delta Force..............were just some of the movies he was in.:)

what was the movie when he was a guest at a tournament but then he joined because a fighter was one member short?

I think it was called Sidekicks- where the kid idolized Chuck, kept daydreaming of him, wishing he was his partner during all of his ventures.:)

Chuck Norris - Great martial artist, below average actor, he's one of those old school martial artists I admire apart from Bruce Lee, Benny Urqiduez [spells?] , Bill Wallace and Joe Lewis :)

I agree that Chuck Norris is a great roll model but i have heardthings about him which made me a little wary.

Apparently he once promoted himself ina movie (or the producers did on teh end credits) as one of the other MA ists was a higher dan grade than he was. I'm not sure wether this is true but has ne one else heard about this?

Of course i hope most folks have heard him do the dreadful job on the theme song to Walker right ? I like the Chucker a lot - but i wonder why someone close to him didn't say " Buddy, listen, dont kick my a$$ but your voice sucks "

Yes Andy, I'm say he look like an idiot on camera. Not saying is not flashy enough or anything, but his moves are way too slows, and same stuff every single time. Theres a reason why people dont use stuff like jujitsu, or what not in movies, because they look awful on screen. Real martial art fighting is simple and plain, that sort of stuff won't last on screen. Especially since HK style action are starting to influences america, those stuff Chuck Norris's doing is laugh able for todays standard. I'm glad Taxes Ranger died out.:p

I was reading Chuck Norris's farewell message

I remembered back to 1974, when I decided to retire after six years as the undefeated World Middleweight Karate Champion.

Then I was looking around on the net and I verified a funny fact: Norris was beaten at least once during his competition days. One of them was John Liu from The Secret Rivals. Norris is a humble and honest man eh? Can anyone find more information on this? Here's the site I went to:

Yes is true, thats why I never liked that guy. Just going out to say stuff thats untrue and you cant back it up. Perhaps he meant undefeated point fighting.

I had to weigh in on this one. There was a point when I was 10 years old and wanted to go see Lone Wolf Mc'Quade but then I wasn't allowed by my parents.

Years later I saw it and was glad I saved my money. These days if I want to Chuckle through an hour of naff TV I might switch on to Walker Texas Ranger...at 2am in the morning! The first bit of tea gets spat across the room the minute he starts singing his own theme song and then the wooden acting see's the rest of the tea go right after it.

Let's face it, the guy can't act his way out of a paper bag. He was totally lacking in on screen charisma right back to his Bruce Lee film days and nothing has changed.

If I want boring martial arts by a really bad actor with too much hair on his body, I watch Chuck! *LOL* Not that there's anything wrong with that.

He's naff.... I make no apology.

Oh Yoda, don't worry about it so much. The world is full of naff performers, actors and artists as well as naff persons in just about every field you can think of.

I'm not particularly emotionally invested, but since your taking some kind of moral high ground here, I'll see your "Criticising the garden of another does nothing to remove the weeds from your own."
