That's right. I've had enough of my girly physique and strength of a 12 year old. It's time to start doing some real exercises.

Pullups.

I need a good quality pullup bar to use here at home...hopefully of the type that works in a doorway. Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried them at friends' houses a few times, but they always feel really precarious. I want it to be a good quality bar that I won't be afraid to use for fear of it falling off...

Yeah, I've got this same question. I pass the "Iron Gym" doorway pull-up bar whenever I go shopping, and it seems solid enough, but I'd rather have you guys' input.

There are a few different ones, here is the one I got:

But I have seen a better looking one, have not tried it, but it looks more versatile. Here is a vid:

Iron Gym also. Nice and strong. As long as your door frame is sound of course. :)

Ironically I utilise my doorframe for much of my home training - Stretch Loop, Iron Gym, hanging pads, etc.

I can only use one of the frames in my living room as the other is only held up with positive thought. Council property for you tho, I have not got any two doors that are the same width which i didn't think was possible.

I have an Iron Gym pull-up bar myself. Just be careful if you try weighted pull-ups. I cracked my doorframe.

If your heart is set on a pull-up bar get try to find the one that is basically a pole that extends across a doorway and then tightens up to stabilize. If you get those other ones they don't always fit in a door way. I was given one like that Iron gym and it didn't fit in any of the doors in my house.

Or you can buy a barbell and weights and do bent over rows.

You buy them to fit the door. They come in different sizes. Way better than a bar.

What if you move? I don't own a house I rent and every year or so I move around. I've used those bars and I weigh about 220 those things are pretty sturdy. Wouldn't wear any weight though while doing the pull ups.

Hm. Well, I went ahead and bought the Gold's Gym pull-up bar, it works just fine, and it was ten bucks cheaper. House hasn't collapsed yet.

i use the iron gym one. its pretty sturdy and i do like 200 pullups a week and its been okay. just make sure your door frame is the correct dimensions and that you have enough room for your head to do the pullup. another option is to obtain some some heavy resistance bands and a door wedge and do pulldowns with those.

I found a piece of iron and hung it between 2 trees in my garden :p. Works fine.

I found two hooks at a DIY shop for a total of £1.99 and screwed them to a beam in the garage with a broomhandle between them.

Would be a worthwhile investment if you actually used it :D
