Hey hey, I myself do not study or practise Muay Thai (no schools/gyms around here :( ) But when i watch it every monday night im amazed at the explosive burst the fighters are able to throw there kicks out at.
I'm just interested in any training techniques which help you achive that kind of explosive result?

first you have to understand these fighters have been training kicks since day 1. It's like a walk in the park for them. It's all in the conditioning.
if you want to blast, look into explosive training/plyometrics. Increase your aerobic and especially, anaerobic conditioning. Skip rope, run, wind sprint, kicking drills on the bag, etc etc. Build your legs through squats, ducksquats, samurai walks, depth jumping, etc. In muay Thai, a lot of the kicking techniques are done on tiptoes. It's more graceful, faster and it builds explosive calf power over time. You can try that. Don't neglect your midsection. Develop those strong abs and obliques, crunches, situps, lots of kicking drills. Lay off the heavy weight training and use weights only to build performance muscle. One of my favorite explosive training drills is to squat down with bar and perhaps 10lb weights and exploding off my feet when I come up. Over time, you'll notice an increase in your kicking ability. Your midsection will become more conditioned to it and thus better and faster response times. Soon, the kicking will become so second nature to you, you can fire rapid kicks without even thinking about it.

I second the whole plyometric training idea, as I have seen the results while I was training in Taekwondo. The results are substantial, but the so is the strain on your joints.

Just kick a lot. Learn to whip your hips into kicks. Also, when kicking, make sure your kick goes back almost kicking your butt. The reason is you have more range of motion so the kick can get off more power and speed before it lands. Alos, when you launch your kick, use your calf muscle to launch it up. If you got strong calf muscles, you can really launch fast kicks. You have to be pretty flexible though if you want to have good explosive kicks and it'll take years(well atleast in mycase, more then 3) to have explosive middle and high kicks.

I noticed this guy offering his website in another thread..
Could be worth a look .. not all training drills will necessarily apply to muay thai but if you consider the info above you'll be able to eliminate the unnecessary ones :)
