i have read through the sections and came across many people asking for tips on stretching (as i am about too) also asking how to reach optimum stretch, i.e splits.
i read the guide, stretching for beginners. Also read about the dynamic stretching, relaxed and isometric. I do all of these. just didn't know i did till i read the 'terms' for these.
ok to let ya know a bit about me, i can do my splits. front, side, and i can do with ease... this has been helped along by my recent purchase of a leg stretching machine. My side splits exceeds 180 degrees and my front split is pretty good.
My question is, can someone help me with ADVANCED stretches? To help me advance and exceed where i currently am? or can u reccomend some other more advanced kinds of stretches than general ones?
Many thanks in advance.

Jazzy,
You can do full front splits and side splits, exceeding 180 degree ROM. I'll assume 'cold' (without a warm up) and you want to do MORE stretching? Flexibility is like any other type of training be it aerobic or anaerobic cardio, strength training, etc.
If I were you I would worry less about your static flexibility, and more about your other areas of training.
Can you perform all your techniques flawlessly?
How is your forms? or Sparring/Ring Skills?
How much can you bench press, squat, deadlift? how many chinups can you in a row? what about pushups?
How fast can you sprint 100 meters, can you run a full 2 kms?
Maintain your strong attributes, in your case flexibility, and pursue development of the areas that you are not so comfortable with.
Does that make sense?

i'm not perfect at all in them other areas whatsoever, and i do agree they could be improved. me forms are getting there finally after spending last 2 years perfecting each as much as i can to a point where i am happy. sparring is good, again could be better and so forth with all other aspects you outlined.
i understand totally where your coming from :)
Its just that I was looking for alternative stretches as most stretches i do in class etc dont really benefit me. One of my Taekwondo Instructors does help with oversplit stretches the only issue is we don't get to train together very often. Thanks for your reply thou, appreciated :)

EXACTLY..
that's what i wanna find out myself. i have been able to do me splits since as far back as i can remember. i took a long time out of taekwondo and kinda lost me flexibility a bit. but with a lot of hard work over last coupla years i been back i am almost back to where i left off.
all i need now are some vids or tips from those who have the know how. :hail:

Ha ha ha, I'll be. You probably know me better as "Mr Versaflex" from Facebook :D
I take it the TKD instructor who helped you with your splits was Tariq? :D

Dan Davies?
No not Tariq actually, Keith Raistrick, he got some brilliant stretches which actually stretch me, but normal stretches in class dont do much for me, as ya know.
Its hard to get a decent response on this forum? Everyone avoids me question and asks me a different question in return!!

ok ok ok
what about deep side splits by using chairs on either side, Van Damn style?
thats the only thing I can think of...Or start doing really high leg holds, e.g. side kick over your head and hold it for 1min etc, just to get that leg strength.

yeh, i tried with chairs, rocks on the beach lol, and usually in class i put a pad under each foot to elevate and get a deeper stretch, leg strength is one thing i am working on. and i defo will be doing more of that, thanks for the ideas :)
