Just wondering if anyone is going to seni this year, or if anyone went last year? What did you think of it?

there's another thread on this somewhere and i think it has almost the same name.... but yes i went last year and i'm gonna go again this time round. Must take ages to get there from where you live?

Yeah, it takes between 4and 5 hours to get there. Its mad! My instructor has been asked to judge on of the fighting events this year, so we're making it a big weekend away. Should be good.

Have you seen the ads for the pain and glory show on the sat night, it looks really good. Is this anything to do with your instructor?

No, thats not my instructor, it looks wicked though! I can't wait!

Tickets are quite expensive though, i wanted to get the silver seats for £50 but i was "told" by my girlfriend that it cost too much. (I might just buy 1 for me and she can sit right at the back...)
I keep checking the site to see what seminars are gonna be on, so far there's a few freebies and a bob breen seminar but there will lot's more to come.

Does anyone know what this pain and glory show is about? Sounds interesting :)

Pain & Glory is a martial arts fight nite, has K1, MuayThai, MMA and Kickboxing- gonna b a good 1.

Go on the internet, search for nec (in birmingham where it is being held), then search for Seni 04 and this will have details about it.

I'm going down there on the Sat morning, going to seni during the day then pain & glory at nite, Staying overnite and going home on Sunday.

I think there will b alot of people from this website there... So has any1 booked in to go yet?

Yep - found it - thanks!

http://www.senishow.com/painnglory/

Looks very expensive though. Andy Murray I think fought against Pele Reid on the tournament circuit - mind you I could be wrong! But I recognise the name (???)

Also Lee Hasdell apparently brought No Holds Barred to the UK - so it could be interesting.

Sadly my budget won't spread that far but please do a write up of the evening as I would love to hear about it. Please also mention what happened at the Gracie Invitational!! ;)

I just a bit of research and the following members have previously mentioned they would be making an effort to attend SENI at least:

Shipto
Morphus
Yukimushu
Rigsville
Loci (dependent on instructor)
Tibs
Pocketwarrior
Combatant
LilBunnyRabbit
Freeform
Happywelshgal

Be nice if I saw all of you there ;)

Been twice and then wondered why I went in the first place. If you like trade shows and you don't mind crowds then I guess its not too bad a day. Demos are alright but nothing really seemed spectacular to me. Equipment for sale was nothing special especially when so much is online now .You know that you see more variety at tournaments...better seminars on their own and safer condition when there isn't so much going on at the same time.

Now I would be much happier to reccomend the MAP meet here in the Birmingham area which I do believe wil provide a much better experience for your time. :D :D

One question I always had was why do you want to go and watch someone work out when you could instead be working out yourself (like paying someone to eat your steak for you).

Have a great time if you are going.

Cheers, Powchoy

Hi Mel,

You can add Matthew Sylvester to that list. I'll be there with some of my students on the Saturday. We're doing the Pat O'Malley and Dave Carnell seminars in the afternoon which should be good!

I'll will be there on the Sunday.

Can't make Saturday as we have our black belt gradings.

I haven't booked any seminars this year... I did train with Sensei O'Neill a few years back at Seni and it was excellent!

Seni does seem to get more organised each year - but the quality of the martial arts seems to go down :(

Hopefully the demos will be a bit better this year.

If your out and about on saturday night then Broad St is the place to go, heaving with pubs and girls (and blokes if your a girl! don't really look myself!), its a good night out.

I'm now going on Sunday.

My eldest son wants to come and he cannot make it Saturday so instead of truning up on my motorcycle i'll be in the car with my wife and son.

Hey folks, i just got back from SENI. Wasn't that good this year. No good breaks or spectacular feats. For those of you who went, I was wearing a Wales footie top with a Puma backpack.

Bought 3 Samurai Swords :D:D:D

Would have give you all something else to look out for. :D :D :D

I personally thought that seni was quite mixed this year.Overall the demos were appalling,I still can't figure out what all the gymnastics is about.A circus would have been cheaper. And I feel the organisers need to be dragged over the coals for allowing pole dancers and "exotic" dancers from Spearmint Rhino to be displaying themselves(quite literally) and plying for trade. They have nothing to do with martial arts, and I certainly know a lot of parents were uncomfortable with their prescence, considering that the majority of martial arts practioners in this country are under 16.If the organisers of seni took money for their stand, does that make them pimps?
Anybody else have a view on this that were there?

There's a couple of like-minded views in the Journals section.

This is the chief reason I have never and probably will never attend a SENI event. It represents to me the epitome of what is wrong with modern martial arts.

Did anyone pick up the free "Pole Position" magazine? :p I was quite suprised to find Spearmint Rhino and a few ladies walking around with next to nothing on. I think the Team Combat ladies were wearing a gi top and hardly anything else as well (not that I noticed or anything). It was good eye candy ;), but Seni is meant to be family event. Wasn't there a mobile phone stand as well?

I didn't check out as many demos this year. I had no idea what demos were on because they were charging 4 quid for a programme, and I wasn't willing to pay that. I'd rather put that money towards a video or some training equipment. I manage to pick up a training Barong, which I've always wanted!

SENI is becoming way too commercial, I mean there were way 2 many non-MA stands there this year, the demos were absolutely terrible. There was too much acrobatics and not enough proper technique. Too many half-naked sales reps (as a 17 year old, this is not much of a problem :p). Food was too expensive and of poor quality, and they never have ANY bins around the place.

SENI 04 = Catastrophe
