Well, I don't really know were to go with this but I'll give it a try. Basically, I am looking for some advice on how to get my finger out and train/excercise more!!

I train twice a week in MA (Mondays & Thursdays), each session lasting 1.5 hrs. On top of this I am looking to add in some weight training (maybe twice a week for half an hour at a time) and maybe another MA class at the weekends. I also want to add in some stretching/yoga/pilates to help with my flexibility & mobility.

I am a father, I work full time, I like to try & socialise too and most importantly, I find it very difficult to get up in the in the mornings, regardless of how much sleep I get. I am simply not a morning person!!

The problem with weekends is that I am a big football fan and watch my team when they play, which pretty much rules out doing something else which will take a few hours out of my weekend as I like to spend time with my son.

I was just wondering does anyone have any advice on how to incorporate all this into my life?!?

For instance, on a Thursday our mats our free for half an hour before the class starts, so I could get down and do some stretching then. However, I always seem to be running late.
Now that the football season is over I could try out an extra class at the weekend and see how that goes before the season starts again.

I just feel I need some direction...and how do people motivate themselves and organise their time.

Thanks in advance

how old is your son? you could try to get him to join you in MA. it would get you both something else to do together at home, it would help your son out with a lot of things later in life, AND it's a tremendous bonding experience for both of you.

My advice: purchase exercise equipment (barbell, weights, bench, cage/rack). Put a TV in front of it, and do your sets during the commercial breaks on your football games.

Even better - record your games, then spread them out through the week so that you can get 2 or 3 lifting sessions each week. You can even work in some other stuff - a set of tabatta squats would take 4 minutes - about as long as a commercial break.

You could do the commercial break workout. It would be ballin.

i think the OP meant he actually attends the games, even then, on this side of the water football only has one break. unlike you yankies that stop every 15 mins :p

doing weights/exercise infront of the tv is a good idea though. think of the workout you'd get if you did it during all the crappy soaps and reality tv :hat:

Thanks for your replies. Although I don't attend the games as I am from Belfast, I have to go out to watch them in bars most of the time and it is quite a social thing, ie. beer involved!!

I am planning on buying some kettlebells and I have a treadmill & weights at home. I just find it hard to motivate myself in the mornings and after I put my son to bed (who is nearly 2 years old) at nite it is usually close to 8!!
I suppose I will just have to be more disciplined with my time and more motivated if I want to fit it all in.
At least with the season being over I can try an extra class at the weekend.

ANy other tips?

Cheers

tried listening to music to pump yourself up for exercise sessions?

something hard and aggressive, like industrial, or hard rock, or metal should do the trick

do you work locally? have you tried biking or running to work?

It's not the actual workout that I need motivated for, it's finding the time to do it. As I mentioned, I am not the greatest at utilising my time!! I'm not lazy, but do end up fannying around at times and before I know it I'm rushing or just simply don't have the time to do something.
I have been looking up workouts such as the kettlebell meltdown which would only take around 15mins, or things like the 300 workout which would be about the same. They will help me build strength and keep me fit but wouldn't take up too much time. I am also looking to do a MA class at the weekends. Maybe BJJ or Muay Thai.
I do cycle to work and back every day although it is only 2.5k. Better than nothing I suppose!!

ANyone use kettlebells? I'm going to buy a set of 12/16/24kg I think.

Cheers

It would be interesting to read other opinions, but I find that it is easy to say I don't have the time. I work very long hours (as we all do nowdays), but the reason I find the time is I don't wait for a gap to appear in my schedule I make the time in advance.
For example, say to yourself I will be training for 30 minutes on Thursday at 18.00. Now that time is already booked in advance you will have to arrange other matters on that day around the training, not the other way around. If you are doing this extra training at home there is no need to feel guilty about neglecting the family, as they know before hand that this time is your training time.
