View Full Version : Oxygen deficit?
Hi there,
I have recently heard of oxygen deficit, or debt. It got me thinking of a warmup session the other week where I felt absolutely trashed after it, to the point where I was seeing stars, sound had gone crystally and I couldn't make out the words of the instructor. Felt like blood running out of my head and I had to sit down for 5 minutes wondering if I was going to pass out.
Could this be oxygen debt or just overdoing it?

sounds like it could be an oxygen deficit but if that is the only time it happened i would think it being more about just overdoing it. If u always feel like ur not getting enough oxygen go to the doctor and have them check ur O2 sat with a pulse ox or something. Ive had that same feeling before though in fire academy we had drills all day running up and down 7 stories with gear and stuff and pulling hose in full turnouts and on air and i felt tired but ok, then when we stopped at the end and the captain were talking to us about it i had the same type of thing happen and everything kept getting brighter till i couldnt see and it was just all white then i passed out for a second or 2, once i cooled down i was fine and it happened to other people there too when they would just way overdo it.

It's not lack of oxygen per se, but it is related to that.
It is likely to be caused by a reduced supply of blood to the brain (and therefore less oxygen) which could be caused by two reasons:
1) If it happened while you were exercising, it is likely caused by the majority of blood flow being directed to working muscles, leaving less to reach the brain.
2) If it happened after exercise, it is likely due to the sudden reduction in blood pressure resulting from ceasing exercise.
Either way, it's from working hard. Not something to be overly worried about (unless it is happening on a regular basis).
