just because I never notice a whole bunch of capoeira aguys on the fourm, it seems to be dominated by other martial arts. SO I just wanted to pick out how many capoeira guys are around here. I'm a big capoeria fan my self after seeing plenty demos, movies, and training in it for 1 year:D

Sorry for not responding sooner. I thought the email notification would've told me someone posted on the board.
I'm VERY new in Capoeira...only about 7 weeks. I recently had abdominal surgery so this is definitely an interesting experience. I play almost everyday though so I'm growing...I think. :)

Here, here! I think Capoeira should remain to few people as possible! It will end up as one bad joke has TKD, Karate, and eventually BJJ and JJJ. People have a hard time accepting it as a "real" martial art.

M3Inline6 checking in. I just found this site as well, and it's good to find more Capoeiristas online. I also frequent www.capoeiraonline.com . There isn't as much traffic there as I'd like it to be, but hey, beggers can't be choosy! :D

Rippaman reporting, from Springfield IL's Volta Ao Mundo Capoeira Club. We all train under two senior students of Mestre Rony (Yes, it's Hony like Roda is Hoda), whom started Volta Ao Mundo, whom was one of Mestre Berimba's senior students himself. It does seem there are few Capoeiristas here, or maybe they were all just lingering. I also apologize for me posting in July when it the last post was Feb, haha! Axe'!

Good to see new Capoeriaistas, I have been doing for it for 3 months now, having a major blast doing it. My mestre is Amen Santo (Who had a small part and coreographed Only The Strong) I have to say that before I started practicing I asummed it was going to be break dancing with a martial arts type move thrown in now and then, I am very suprised by brutal takedowns and awesome kicks.

Our grupo affiliates heavily w/ Batuque. Amen, Nasir, Mariano, and all the Batuque guys attend our events and visit our school, and vice versa. My mestre and Amen are good friends. Looks like I'll see you in the roda eventually. :)

Dude, honestly...play as much as you can, novice or not. Playing is where you ascertain the skill/mindset for the game. You can train movements until you're blue in the face, but w/o the game......the interaction, it doesn't come together. :) Where will your open roda be? Have you met Melee' (May-lay) yet???

No "official" training here, but I'm learning a bit of Regional/Senzala. A friend of mine knows the basics from when he grew up in South America, and I picked up a couple illustrated books on it to fill in the blanks. Once I think I'm getting good I'm gonna go take official lessons so they can tell me everything I've been doing wrong ;)

man, don't wait!! do it right away instead...don't you know how annoyingly hard it is to relearn something once you've learnt to do it wrong?!?

He he, yes I do, and thank you for your concern; however, I can't go to lessons right now because I have too much on my plate (full time Genbukan student), and to get to classes it would be about a 3 and a half hour drive each way. I really want to, but it would just be unrealistic for me to do right now. If you happen to know of a school or instructor on Long Island in New York then please let me know and I may sacrafice a bit of my Genbukan training time for some Capoeira time. Unfortunately the only Mestre I know of is in New York City.
I'm fairly confident that I'm learning correctly. As I said my friend knows the basics and I have a couple books to jog his memory. Also I normally have little trouble teaching myself something that I see someone else do (except submission locks :bang: ), and there are plenty of capoeira clips on the internet.
I plan on slowing down a bit with my Genbukan training in a year or two (right now I'm in "catch up" mode, 2 to 3 classes every day); that's when I plan on taking official Capoeira lessons.
If I'm not sure whether or not I'm doing a move correctly I'll film it and post it here so you can all tell me :D

Newbie to the board, olbie(!) to Martial arts....! With major love for capoeira.
I live in Barcelona, where Capoeira is pretty big - just yesterday I got involved in a street roda that was randomly taking place.
It's a great martial art.
Peace

All right then!
Capoeira has to be one of the most unique and dynamic martial arts there are.
I am lucky enough to live in a place where there is a rather large selection of capoeira schools to pick from.

I've been meaning to head down there to visit them, but all of my vacation is slated for Brasil this year. Maybe I could do a weekend visit since I'm fairly close to them. Hmmmmm! (*ponders*)

i sent PM with some notes on capoeria (general) i dont know if you got it or even know i sent them, but theyre there.. if that feature is working ill send you trip notes.. when do you plan to be there? and if youre going to vitoria, why not make it salvador instead? or in addition to.. its a shame to go that far and not go all the way (in a matter of speaking).. if you want to see capoeira, id pick salvador over vitoria any day of the week.. and esporte clube bahia is a better team then vitoria anyways!!! ;) (sorry had to include a futebol reference)..
ive never been to fortaleza.. its the capital of ceara, its the state north of pernambuco on the west end (on the east end of pernambuco, there are two states in between) it sounds weird but if you look at a map that shows the states you see what i mean.. let me know about if the PM is working cause i dont want to take up the thread with trip notes..

Thanks bro. I'll check the P/M's right now. To answer your question though, I'm going w/ my grupo, and my mestre is from Vitoria, so that is why we'll be there the longest. We're having a major encounter! :)

well with your grupo, thasts awesome.. for some reason, i thought you were doing it alone.. when you get to recife, try to make it out to olinda, which has a capoeira history as well, though not as documented, it was also place with large concentration of slaves, and has beautiful colonial churches and sites...

No name, but I've been jokingly called "Papa John", because on the day of Batizado a few month ago, I got food poisoning from that very pizza joint, and couldn't attend to get my Capoerista name/newer cord.
So far, I've only been in for nigh 4 months, but, loving it.

How late am I to be posting on a thread that is two years old, and whose last post was a month ago. I've been on this site for a little while, but away from this and other internet forums for the last few months (more work, more responsibilities).
By the way, I train Capoeira Angola with Grupo de N'Golo. Been training many years, now.

Hi,
I've only done capoeria for a short while myself (few months). It's not popular here so its not the full thing with all the instruments and singing (good job, cos after a long day at work I cant see myself singing, really). We do it from cds and we still enjoy it. Just starting to get onto doing the Roda now. :-D Has anyone else found that they forget all the moves as soon as they step into the circle and everyone is watching?? lmao. I was like that the first time, but little bit more relaxed in it now. Still forgot all the moves though.
