Just for fun, this isn't supposed to be a serious debate! Because I know we'll never know! Assume the fight takes place at the peak of their fighting abilities, or else it’s a bit unfair on Bruce :D

Sorry I took your poll of the front page pgm316 but I needed it for the other poll.

Still, I'd say Bruce Lee, and if not, I'd gladly take his place in the ring:o

If we are talking all in thier prime Ill go with Bruce, but I would put my money on a more modern fighter like Frank Shamrock, or Tito Ortiz because they have the benifet an enormus amount of cross training and refinment. dont believe me? watch the first UFC, then watch the latest one-big difference in skill and stanema.

but how in the world did Vandamme and Hogun get on there? they would die fast fighting those other guys.

How dare you all mock The Hulkster :D My childhood hero was in for the comedy element but he could still cause the others some problems if he got hold of them, he does have a big size advantage and 30 years of wrestling experience, however dodgy that might be.

I wouldn’t put Miyamoto Musashi in, I’m sure he was fantastic, his book was, but its near impossible comparing somebody that died a few hundred years ago. And sorry I forgot about Chuck, I should have put him in.

If I could put another person in *upto the moderators?* It could be Frank Shamrock. Ninja06 made a good point and Frank Shamrock is regarded by many as the best modern day martial artist. I wasn’t sure how fair it was putting an experienced UFC fighter in;

Here is some Frank Shamrock quotes I found regarding martial arts & UFC;

The first question answered was, "Do martial arts work?" The answer was a resounding YES. Martial arts training was touted as being able to give a person the ability to overcome a larger, stronger opponent. Many doubted that this was true. Yet when the world watched 155-pound Royce Gracie continually humiliate and defeat opponents outweighing him by as much as 50 pounds, the public had no choice but to become believers.

The second question answered was, "What is the BEST martial art?" The answer was again indisputable: NONE. Martial artists from a myriad of different backgrounds and styles fought in these events, and it was clearly demonstrated that there is no superior martial art; there are only superior practitioners.

The next question was, "Did Bruce Lee know what he was talking about?" The answer was: You betcha! More then 30 years ago, Lee incurred the wrath of the martial arts community by insisting that it was a mistake to rigidly adhere to the teachings of a single style or system. Lee insisted throughout his adult life that martial artists should take advantage of opportunities to train in many different styles and ultimately develop a personal style as a form of self-expression.

Wouldn't Musashi just run them through with his swords? A bit like cheating!

Remember that Mr Hogan does have a background in 'proper' wrestling. And besides his friends would probably run in and help him :)

Got to put my money on Frank Shammrock though!

Its a funny one this. Im sure in the octagon F Shamrock would be up there. In the boxing ring I would call Ali. On the street, free-fighting with biting, gouging and all those dirty tactics Im not so sure probably Chan or Lee.

Bruce Lee was no slouch when it came to cross-training himself.

I`d be tempted to put my money on Steven Seagal as a surprise winner since people have a tendency to forget just how good he is.

Otherwise I`d say: O`sensei

Hmm, Ueshiba in his prime, he was a bit of a nut job picking fights in pubs to practice his technique. All the old Japanesse Masters of th 1920's seem to have know each other, imagine getting into a scap in a pub where Ueshiba, Kano, Abbe and Funakoshi were drinking :)

And Seagal is very good (quiet Tintin!) the first Westerner to open an Aikido dojo in Japan!

I think I'd just stay home rather than get into an altercation with those people around lol.

Seagal has an extremely well documented Martial Arts background. As far as television Martial Artists go, he is easily in the top 5 as far as having real ability in what he has trained.

I would like to put a friendly tid bit for those of you who voted for Jackie, a great fighter he definately is, super talented. But the fight between jackie and Bruce has already been decided.

Watch the chinese connection and when bruce is fighting all those guys in the underground prison, one of those guys really was Jackie Chan. Bruce Lee broke his neck like nothin'. If you pay atention, you will see him, its the guy Bruce locks up by his arm and hair and you get a good look at his face too.

So bruce wins that particular match which eleminates Jakie from the rest of the fights.

Of course I present this in jest, but I thought since most of what we have seen from these guys is only in movies, I figured it could carry some marrit.:D

Ah yes, but if it was Jackies film he would have whipped Bruce Lee like a two dollar whore! Probably with a fish or french-stick or something similar!

Thanx

Or Sammo Hung would take them both with a spinning pair of fish lol.

Jackie was also the stunt double for the Japanese boss that Bruce flying kicks through the doors at the end of 'Fists of Fury'.

I have to give alot of credit to Jackie Chan, for he does his own stunts with broken appendages snd keeps on ticking. Bruce only fought in the movies and he probably would have been a great real life fighter professionally.
Everyone on your poll is excellent! NO Doubt about it! I chose other, simply because Hulk Hogan is the only "fighter" there with ring sense and Being from the old days, I liked Sho Kusugi's style back then in the movies. Michael Dudikof, Richard Norton, Bill Wallace, Joe Lewis, Cung Lee, fighters and martial artists alike are all great!

For being the bravest I think I'd have to put my money on Jackie.

Watched a Jackie Chan documentary last night, they asked him was he worried about these Matrix style special effects that let anybody pretend to be a martial arts expert. He didn't appear bothered in the slightest way, just excited about what it would let him do!

Showed some of his stunts that went wrong, he really was a crazy. In supercop they filmed some of the scenes in Hong Kong. He wanted to show the Americans how they do it there. He was climbing out between two big metal cargo containers while a truck was pushed them together. He put some crates between in case it went wrong. And it did as he fell back down. He just got his head out with inches to spare as the containers crashed to, and the crates disintegrated in the impact.

But his worst accident happened when he was jumping from one wall to another, using a tree in the centre to carry him across. The tree snapped he fell, hit his head on some rocks. He sat up and asked what went wrong, while he had blood spraying from his ear. He had an emergency operation to put a piece of plastic in his skull, which he still has.

Most dangerous one was when he jumped from a building (very high up) onto a rope ladder held from a helicopter. He got there and said he wasn't gonna do it, its just too dangerous he said, he would have been killed if he missed the ladder. Then he saw thousands of fans and photographers all there watching. He said I'll have to do it!

well what kind of fight is it? in a boxing rules match Mohammed Ali hands down Bruce Lee at 5'7 could NEVER handle Ali in his prime. in case you never saw it find the Clay-Liston fight #2 it was in 64 or 65 i think. everyone talkes about Bruce Lee's speed. take a look at this fight, Ali makes Bruce look like a slow old man. Round five the Phantom punch, people thought the fight was fixed "Ali didn't throw a punch Liston just fell down" once slow motion and instant replay were used (it wasn't possable at that time) there was a punch and a good one. it was just so fast now one could see it.

now if it were a anything goes street fight i have no idea how Ali would do. so boxing rules Ali, street fight Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee.
why did you put jean-claude on this list, or seagal for that matter?

I don`t know why Van damme is there but, before he went all weird, Segal was an incredibly skilled aikidoka. In his film`s he actually looks worse than he really is, since he only ever does a few of the more basic techniques in the movies.

I put Van damme on because its a celebrity fight out (sort of). It proves what people think of him as a fighter!

It'd be interesting to do another poll concentrating purely on fighters as opposed to celebrities. Frank Shamrock would make a good addition to the poll, along with some other top martial artists like Joe Lewis etc. I read in the Tao of Bruce Lee how Joe Lewis was once sparring lightly with Ali and Lewis took Ali to the ground and within seconds had Ali in a lock. So I don't think Ali would be too good in a martial arts contest!

i read somewhere about ali's speed of punching they(some dam researchers) found out it's 4/100 th of second... and his reflex action time was 15/100 th of a second...
so i guess it's pretty bad speed... dunno about bruce... my bet is on ALi...

as boxing go's they don't call Ali the greatest cuz all the other nick names were taken. and don't forget chuck noris, he did hold every major martial arts world title in his time.

Bruce Lee Rulez :D

He beat a 3 time boxing champion in Honk kong, reached a level of fitness nobody dared to go, trained in almost every method available, on tp of it he had a fighter's attitude, had utmost confidence in his every attack [lost interview]

In my opinion, he could whoop a$$ out of anyone else in the poll :D

The legend that is Bruce Lee...IMHO! A total weapon! I just think that if he truly is as he is on the big screen, he'd be too fast for the rest of the pack....having said that, Jet Li is damned quick, too...:D
