I experienced a pain up my bum now and then, like a stick being pushed up my bum, it was quite sharp and painfull but I put up for it for a while then went to the doctors. He said it was my sciatic nerve and I just needed to strengthen my pelvic floor muscle.
Basically I just tense the pelvic floor muscle for 5 - 10 seconds a few times a day and now I dont get the pain anymore :)
Just thought I'd let the forum know, in case others are suffering in silence, as it is quite embarassing to tell others.
If anyone wants to know how to tense your pelvic floor muscle, you tense the same muslce as if your trying to stop yourself from peeing. Also clenching the buttocks at the same time is beneficial.

In my experience if it feels like a stick up the bottom it usually is a stick up the bottom!

Also clenching the buttocks at the same time is beneficial.I underwent surgery about a year ago for a herniated ruptured disc. The pain started in the lower back and went all the way down to the Achilles. Initially my Doctor diagnosed it as Sciatica, gave me some Motrin 800's and sent me on my way. About three months later the problem was not getting any better so once again back to the doctor. Confused with my complaining he ordered an x-ray. At the follow up he claimed I had a minor case of arthritis, gave me a higher strength pain med, and made me attend physical therapy to strengthen the area. They would always begin with a deep tissue massage then that would be followed by the weight room. I would feel better for about a day or two but the pain would always come back. So after the six months I returned to the Doctor for another follow up. From there he had to order an MRI. Next thing I knew I was reffered to a neurosurgeon. I was basicly told I could try shots in the back, but they wouldnt help, or undergo surgery. I opted for the shots before comitting to any surgery. Did those for about a year. They helped but the pain always came back in about two weeks. The shots were $1500 everytime you went because you had to be hospitalized for about 4 hours, and an IV had to be set up on you. I finally decided to do the surgery after spending about $10,000. The surgeon had to literally chip away calcium deposits around the spine to free up my nerves, but he said that happened because I let it go so long before getting it taken care of the right way.
All I am saying is if the pain continues, listen to your body.
