This thread is not meant to cause an argument!!!!

I've been reading threads about the history of Ninjutsu and comments attempts to teach one's self the forms and techniques. And I want to learn sword fighting, buts theres no freaking dojo around me that offers any form. I figure I better ask these questions here, instead of giving into temptation of attempting to learn from a book. So here we go:

**Paraphrasing quotes:
-Now, one guy has already stated in a post concerning self-taught attempts:"How do you think they began?"

And some one replied: " After years of 'trial-and-error', we know better. "

[My thoughts](Don't pay attention to this, just putting this here so you understand why I'm asking)

Ninja was mainly poor class of people, right? Well, they made their own swords, and were ninja former soldiers of the Japanese Imperial that trained the families? Forms and techniques of sword fighting differed from clan to clan or were different from clan to clan?

[My question] I'm focusing on the part of my thought, if they 'were different from clan to clan', Are there exactly set techniques now for the arts?

Secondly, the discussion of shorten the sword a 'few inches' to suit fast 'slice'. In martial arts, everyone apt to adapt to their own style of kicking, or punching. The same should be forms and techniques right? (Not exactly to extreme of completely changing the forms and techniques to suit one's needs, just slight change to make it easies.)

All the above comments and question, I'm just asking as an insurances to myself.

Yama--

Where do you live/work? Maybe there is something in driving distance that someone in the group might know about.
