Well, Christmstas is fast approaching and training usually stop for a few weeks.

Anyone got any tips for not piling on the pounds with all that temptation? :D

I'm not buying loads of bad stuff in at home and really trying hard not to make too much eggnog :D

Never known why people spend hundreds of £££'s on a weekly shop just because it's Christmas. Few treats maybe but it's a two day holiday, why should it make you fat?

I find it funny to see people with 2 or 3 overflowing trollys at the supermarket, WTF?

Either say "to hell with it" - enjoy your Xmas then diet it off in January, or stick to eating as clean as possible and consume as many calories as you would on a normal day. ;) I suspect most people will go for the former option. Anyone who does the latter is either dedicated or sad!

Personally, I'm going to make use of the time off, extra calories and extra sleep to squeeze in some extra heavy training.

What's so different about Christmas? If the traditional Christmas food was so nice we'd eat it all year round. It's only because it's expected that Christmas puddings get sold, horrible things.

Why the HECK does everyone think they are going to pile on the weight at christmas? For goodness sake you should still be eating the same number of meals a day. As for all the parties and stuff - if you are taking proper advantage of them you shouldn't need dinner again when you get home.

At worst you should only gain a couple of pounds from the increase of alcohol intake.

I've never understood this either. The way the British Public acts, you'd think the whole country was going to shut down for 3 months! A couple of years ago, around December 21st, I'd been to visit a friend and was coming home late (around 1am) and decided to pop into Tesco, thinking it would be quiet at that time, to stock up on frozen fruit for my smoothies, and the place was heaving! People even had their kids out with them! :bang: :woo: It was nuts!

Absolutely, It's only once a year, I intend to enjoy it!

How can you not like Christmas pud - you strange man! ;) :)

I love Christmas pud! :)

I made the mistake of trying Selfridge's Champagne Christmas pudding yesterday, GORGEOUS! That was after I drank gin in Harvey Nicholls :D

I'm about to make the mistake of wandering into Liverpool, where they have a Christmas market on with stalls selling crepes (savoury and sweet), garlic prawns, paella, a selection of cakes, chocolates and nuts!

I eat xmas dinner, apart from that I eat pretty normally. Any chocs given as presents are given away in turn, at parties I'll eat the healthiest option and keep myself from eating more than a resonable portion. When people bring chocs into work I just don't eat them!

In some past christmasses I've gained about 4 pounds of fat over the course of the holiday season, seriously! I'm under 90kg now and I'm going to stay that way:woo:

I generally lose weight over Christmas due to not training as much (I mean, who wouldn't want to go to the gym on Xmas day and then do a few rounds of MMA?), and therefore not eating as much.

Anyway, tips to not gain weight over Christmas.

Don't eat lots of junk and sit on your arse watch crap TV instead of the usual training.

If your training partners are to lazy to continue training over the festive period, then their loss. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it easy over the Xmas/New year period but I'm not going to stop training and drastically change my diet.

I find that if you have a 'good' nutrition plan in your everyday life, it will survive the ODD festive treat. To be honest I find it really hard to indulge in festive binging, a combination of 'filling up easily' and a mentality I suppose.

I would give up all the other crap and just eat Christmas pudding.
but I must agree to many people buy enough food to feed a small country (like Wales)

I'm going to have to try this evil, wicked muck again. Just to check mind. It's a long time since I bothered:baby:

That would be some shop! They tend to eat big here, most people worked manually for a living so the portions had to accommodate, guess it's stuck.

Wales isn't small, it would be bigger than England if we flattened out all the hills and mountains!!!!

The problem doesnt lie with these 3 (or 4 including halloween) isolated events taking place. A day to eat turkey and pumpkin pie, a day to eat ham and mashed potatoes, and a day to get poop-faced drunk isnt what destroys your diet. Its the fact that these isolated events turn into one long 10week session of destruction.

Just because there are more parties, and more food, and more LEFTOVERS, means people usually eat more and do less without realizing it. Some tips that help me out:

- Unless its turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, or a veggie, THROW AWAY LEFTOVERS! You wouldnt normally eat pumpkin pie every day for a week, right? So toss it!

- Buy more healthy snacks. Chances are, you're going to be sitting around the house a lot, so make doubly sure that you have enough carrots, mixed nuts, wutever lying around so you dont stick your hand in a bag of salty carbs

- Keep (healthy) prepared food in the fridge at all times so when you are out running around, you can grab one on the way out instead of stopping off at Micky D's for a big mac

- Most gyms are open on days around the holidays, so thats not a big deal, but if you need some extra cardio, dont be scared of putting on a few extra layers and hitting the snow covered streets

- Eat before you goto parties. Then when you get there, have a couple drinks, eat a few things here and there, and get the hell out so the drunken munchies hit you when you are back in your safe haven at home, full of healthy foods.

- Try and stay away from the overly sugary drinks, and just stick with the classics: Vodka/gin martini, rum and diet, shots of whiskey ;) etc

- Drink your ass off and have fun :) Being stress-free is important too :)
