Hey whats up ppl! I went to the TKD school earlier tonight, and I must say, I was impressed. Its a very good school, and if you want to look at their website, which I encourage so i can get your opinions, its http://www.somersetkarateacademy.com . I am going to take a free lesson on Friday, which is 4 days away. But I dont think I will need much persuasion. I'll take the grappling class, which is Jujitsu/Hapkido. I will also be taking the TKD class. Im so happy! Look at the site folks, and give me your opinion on the school. Until next time, I remain -------

One small word of caution, which applies to everyone!

Before you sign the contract, GET ALL COST IN WRITING!

Find out how much it will cost you for, gup testing, training materials, uniforms, advancement, etc. Also, upon reaching 1st Dan, will the testing fee increase? How much per Dan?

This will save you much grief. Check this forum for many financial horror stories associated with MA training.

Do your homework NOW and save yourself grief LATER!

There's nothing worse than training for 2 or more years only to find out that your 1 Dan test will cost you more than your car.

Greed is everywhere and MA has histoically been filled with very greedy masters only out to make a quick buck.

Otherwise, enjoy... :)

this is really weird people. i have read so many posts, in which people say that the fees get higher, i.e. change. here u won't find such a thing. it's decided on the state level, i.e. in the TKD HQ of the country and it follows the Kukkiwon rules.

anyway, good luck with your classes. I really do hope that u'll be satisified :)

Happy to hear that you have found a good school.... never mind what we think ... it is you that should feel confident on your choice and decision.

Good luck in your training..... and keep us posted on your progress... !

WOW your going to that school. That is a great school. Master Turner is a great friend of mine. I am also the web designer of that site. That format was the old format of my own personal web site that i used about 3 years ago and he liked it. So i gave it to him.

Personally. He is a real good friend of mine. I visit his school every now and then, got to his tourneys, talk to him at least once a week, design his site, and good friends with a few of his students. I know him like you would know your buddy that you ran around with.

When you talk to him, tell him that Chazz told you to sign up. LOL

I really would like this to be a private message, but I doubt the realisation of an incoming message (my past experience...so sorry gang...

Curious, what if one were to tell you that that school was all wrong for you? What would you do?

Cheers

The traditional thing to do...ask for an explanation :)

Mr. Jones
01-Jan-2004, 06:54 PM
Well, sir, I would ask for an explanation. But, I have asked for opinions and advice, so it is to come with the territory of asking a qeustion such as that. It truly does not matter what YOU think, it matters what I think. Thats why I am going to take a free class. But, as ive said b4, I dont think that I will need much persuasion on the subject, I have went and talked with the schools Master, Master Turner. I have watched a TKD class, and a Grappling/ Jujitsu Class. So I know what they do in their classes. They lean alot more towards traditional martial arts, which is what I have wanted from the first day I started looking into martial arts. They do forms, katas, everything that I want. It seems to be a very good establishment. All that is left is to see if I enjoy what they teach.

Fair enough since your are the one asking a specific question and have made up your mind, but I think the question that was asked was a general question, "Curious, what if one were to tell you that that school was all wrong for you? What would you do?".

So suppose you got some negative feed back, what would you do? Would you take the opinions of people you don't know about a school they have never been to seriously?

BTW, I don't have an opinion one way or another and since the Master is known by others on this forum, I would suspect that it's a great school. I wise you the best of luck and look forward to reading about your TKD adventures. Welcome t the club!!!

Well, as mentioned above, I would ask WHY he thinks this, or why this is a bad school for me, then I would think about it for about 2 seconds. My mind is already made up, you see. So its hard to give an answer to the type of question that you are asking me. Although, i hope that that did give you some type of an answer to ur question.

Very good answer. What part of Kentucky are you from?

Im from the southeast portion. All you have to do is look at the website link I put up. LOL. But, its Somerset , Ky. Why do you ask? Are you from Ky?

No, I'm not from Kentucky. I went to college in West Virginia and one of my friends from college lives in Frankfort KY.

We are planning to move this year. My company is relocating to PA. I'm not sure if I want to go to PA or move to KY. I like the Lousiville/Frankfort/Lexington area.

I visited my friend in November and have been thinking about KY ever since. I also have spent some time researching TKD schools in the areas I have described above.

Mr. Jones,

Sorry to ruffle feathers, I meant nothing negative. HitNRun was spot on, as I was just curious, as I receive this question regularly by other masters/grandmasters.

Maybe it's cultural.

And, you are right, my opinion doesn't matter.

Sorry, mate.

Cheers,

DH

Well im glad to hear that you have your mind made up about what you want. Now, since you know what you want noy its time for you to go for it. Just remember, at times it will be hard but the better you work through it the better you will be. Always as the question if you have one. They are good people and will make you a great martial artist if its in your heart to be one.

Let me know when you take your first full class and let me know what you think. Dont forget to tell Jeff and Evva that "THE ONE AND ONLY CHAZZ" says hey and he misses being there.

LOL yeah i guess you did talk to him.
Yeah she lives in Lexington.

I talked to him as well and he said that you look to be a nice student and that he is glad to have you in his school. Well i know you will have fun, just jeek the MAP TKDers informed on how you are doing and how your tests and tourneys go.
