Hello,
I need help finding a Jeet Kune Do in Maryland. Does anyone know of one? Please help. Thanks.

There are at least four JKD teachers in Maryland and numerous other peripherally related teachers (muay thai, BJJ, eskrima, etc.)

Whereabouts are you in Maryland?

My teacher, Guro Pat Finley, isn't teaching publically at the moment, so you're out of luck there.

There's Scott Anderson, who teaches muay thai mostly. But you may want to check his class out. He teaches out of Columbia, Maryland.

Then there's Steve Braun, who was teaching out of Columbia. I'm not sure where he's teaching now. Silver Spring would be my guess.

And Mike Krivka, in Gaithersburg.

Here's a website with links to all three:

Ugh. Those links are kinda worthless. Except for Mike Krivka's. But let me know whereabouts you are and I'll see if I can help.

I wouldn't put yourself out Stuart, he won't be back anytime soon, he's been banned.

Actually I'm from Maryland too, and I'm interested in finding a place to learn Jeet Kune Do as well. I already have a black belt in the style of T'ang Soo Do, but I have developed a strong interest in learning Jeet Kune Do. I live in the town of Glen Burnie, which is fairly close to Baltimore. If anyone has any suggestions about Dojos, I'd greatly appreciate them.

Well, it's not JKD, but I studied at the Kick Connection for many years. They teach Doce Pares eskrima. That, at least, gave me a very good base from which to later study JKD.

I went to eskrima from a taekwondo background myself (Kim's), which they also teach at the Kick Connection.

Check out a class or two. Tell 'em Stuart sent you.

It's on Route 2, very near Jumper's Hole Mall. It's been a while since I lived in Severna Park, and things may have changed. But if you're traveling from Glen Burnie toward Severna Park on Route 2, the school is on the right hand side. There's a Pier 1 and a Wendy's on the right. Just before that is a small shopping center. The Kick Connection is in there.

I trained there for about 8 years. It's a family-owned business. Good bunch, the Patalinghugs.

Anyway, if there's anything else I can tell you, feel free to ask.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll check them out.

No worries. You may want to check out the other teachers I mentioned as well. But Gaithersburg and Silver Spring would be a long trip for you. Prohibitively so, I'd guess.

Columbia wouldn't be bad. I used to make the drive from Severna Park to Columbia for class routinely. But I don't think any of the JKD guys are teaching in Columbia right now.

I have just begun interviewing prospective students for a new JKD group in Silver Spring. I began my JKD training over 20 years ago with Sifu Michael Moore, a student of Larry Hartsell's. If you are interested in serious, intense training within a small group atmosphere, shoot me an email.
