I finally got a heavy bad set up and got the stand so it wont move or tip over every 20 seconds. I was wondering if you guys have any routines that will last for 20-30 minutes. I am open to strikes or combos from any martial art. I can't kick until I find a way to pad the supports behind the bag but I would like to have some combos with kicks in the routine.

Pipe insulation should sort out the supports. Maybe a couple of sizes on top of each other

In this link from MD's post PASmith mentions a podcast by Iain Abernethy for Heavy Bagwork.

I just tried it and it's a hoot:)

You can download it from here (http://blog.iainabernethy.com/?cat=3&paged=2) (it's just called Bag Workout) and it'll only take you 20 minutes or so. There's even a video tutorial you can watch to make sure you know what you're doing.

Thanks guys!

The more basic the better. The heavy bag is probably the most effective piece of training equipment you can own, but only if you use it effectivly. The most important thing is to not try and hit too hard or fast and tire yourself out too quickly.

www.rosstraining.com is the ultimate resource for heavy bag training. He has so many articles about it, as well as various videos. 10 x 2 minutes with 1 minute rest is a very good workout. I personally prefer to work on my heavy bag for about 40 minutes. 10 x 3 minutes with 1 minute breaks. After that you feel like you are going to die. Your whole body feels like it was being used as the heavy bag. You will get very strong from the heavy bag if you use it properly.

Well the routine question is answered full and well, so here is an idea for padding the bar. Get a roll of duct tape and take some old t-shirts (or old clothing) and old socks. Stuff the shirts into the socks to make pads. Tape the pads to the bar. When you're done there get a roll of PVC tape and tape over the whole thing. The PVC tape will last where the duct tape will wear out over time from the occasional scuff.

Side point, I like the Ross bag workout best.
