BTW how's win2k3 when compared to win2k? Is there a client version of win2k3, I just heard about it a month ago...

much more secure - things locked down by default. makes it harder to setup (which is no bad thing IMHO)

snapshot facility allows users to roll back overwritten or deleted files - very useful on a network.

the built in sharepoint portal services are truly excellent for building department level forum / document sharing workspaces. really requires office 2003 to get the most out of it.

Also, the upcoming service pack for 2003 server will make it more secure still. (For example you will be able to refuse login to a laptop if the virus software is not up-to-date.)

at the moment there is no client level version, nor will there be (unless it is a hacked version - there was only 1 registry entry between NT4 WS and Server).

Longhorn has been released in Beta, which is the next version of the windows client. This supports a SQL based file system which I think will make a huge difference once it get's onto the server side of things - (supporting journaling / database mirroring etc). Also has a DX9 based Windows system (so will require a 3d card).

If only I could get it to install on my work machine - might give it a shot at home.

it can co-exist with W2K AD, or install a slightly upgraded (read bugfixed!) version. For example, you can now remove objects from the schema, which was previously impossible.
