Afternoon Everyone
I am considering buying a dipping station (something that you do chin-ups & dips on) and punch bag to compliment my MA training (Jujitsu & Kickboxing).
I was wondering if both of these would be enough to build a bit of muscle without having to buy a set of weights. I am not looking to bulk up so to speak, but would like to add a bit of muscle. Incidentally, I am 5' 9" and weigh 70kg and I'm quite lean.
Also, would it be advantageous to add protein shakes to my diet to aid this, and if so, should I also take them after my MA training sessions?
Thanks in advance

I don't think your going to add any significant muscle mass without using weights to be honest. You might strengthen your muscles a bit and improve muscular endurance, but without weights you'll not be seeing much size gains.
If you aren't using weights then I wouldn't bother about protein shakes.
Also, when to take protein shakes depends on the kind of protein used.
Whey protein tends to be rapidly utilised so best to take that straight after a work out as it works very fast but is essentially used up within 2 hours.
On the other hand, casein is slow release and is best taken before bed to keep a steady supply of protein available through the night.

Dips and chin-ups are quality though!

Yeah, they are. I've got a chin-up bar in my house (although I've stopped using it because I always end up with neck pains - obviously I'm not doing it correctly). And dips are a killer in the gym. But bodyweight exercises will only take you so far in terms of building mass. But that certainly doesn't mean they aren't useful, I agree.

Yes they are. A lot of gymnasts will do bodyweight only exercises and they are some of the most cut, muscles, athletes on the planet. A dip/pull up station, w/ some loose weights and way to attach them to you will build muscle!

This is the key. With weights - yes, you can see significant muscle mass increase in time.
But bodyweight alone, not really.

Ah, see what you mean now. Good call.
When I do dips I hold a 17.5kg dumbbell between my legs.

Yup, that will do it :)

If you want to go minimalist you could do very well with a chin / dip station and a decent weighted vest. If you're in the UK, there are some nice 30kg ones going for about £80 on ebay. I know they're good because me & coma just got one each. :D
You can use the weighted vest to add extra resistance to squats as well, if you don't want to buy dumbells / barbells. Admittedly you'll outgrow 30kg a hell of a lot quicker on squats than you will on chins or dips, but there's still plenty of things you could do - e.g. work up to multiple sets of 15 or 20 with short rest intervals.

NOT TRUE
I outgrew mine after 1 week of chins :D

True enough. And now we just have to work on those feeble dips of yours.

Git, my only consolation are my superior squats and deadlift and bigger overall total.
