For most of this year and some of last I've mainly been reading Stephan King books. Now for those of you who've never read King please, don't assume as many do that hes only a horror-suspense writer only out to make a buck. He tells a story, and a damn good one in near all his books (why do you think near every novel is a bestseller?)
You want proof of Kings great writing, check out the Dark Tower books, his epic. Its amazing and fantastic. You'll also find how his books tie into this epic in so many ways. Look for the Dark Tower books and you'll probably find a list of books that tie into them.
I couldn't say enough good things about the books so I'll stop where I'm at, anyone else love his books like me? (or hate them which ever) You wanna talk about Stephan Kings books talk about 'em here :D

Just starting part 2 of the Dark Tower :D
The Talisman & Black House are a set of 2 - and are without doubt the best books I've read in a long time! And yes, they tie into the Dark Tower :p

Read most of Stephen King's books, but not read any of the Dark Tower books - they look a bit daunting and hard-going. I think he is at his best when there is just one or 2 characters alone (Misery is an obvious one, but Gerald's Game is about a woman who is alone tied to a bed for the book's entirity).
Not done much reading at all this year. I frequently have 3 or 4 books on the go at once, but my current Stephen King book (Insomnia) I have been reading since last Xmas, and am only halfway through it!!

Dark Tower is not heavy going at all - very easy to read.
Then again - I'm a LOTR fan :D

Still meaning to pick up the Dark Tower Books.
Can't recomend any of the Bachman books enough ( theres 3 or 4 Novels he wrote under this name cause he was fed up with horror) They're deff his best stuff IMHO. "The Long Walk" is still one of my favourite books

Is that a continuation of the gunslinger series? If so, thought it was absolutly terrible.
His other stuffs pretty good though.

Yeah, I think that was actually one of the first King books I read, but that doesn't link to Dark Tower does it. As I said, I have read most of King's stuff already. Particularly love some of the Novellas, but other faves are Dark Half, Needful Things, 4-past-midnight, Bag Of Bones, Geralds Game, Regulars/Desparation, Green Mile.

I think LOTR looks even more daunting that Dark Tower - doubt I will ever get round to reading either LOTR or Dark Tower actually. The Shining is another I can't get into (book, or tv-film). Can't get into The Stand either (book or TV-series).

Running Man was Bachman, for those that don't know. He wasn't fed up with horror, but wrote under Bachman for 2 reasons. One to prove people weren't buying just because of his name, and the other was because his name was associated with horror he didn't want people to be put off buying something that wasn't horror. Interestingly though, Thinner is Bachman and horror! Misery was supposed to be a Bachman book, but the public found out who Bachman was before it was released.

The Gunslinger is the first Dark Tower book.
Does anybody know if either Regulators (Richard Bachman or Desparation (Stephen King) link up with the Dark Tower series at all (as well as each other of course)?

Well, with the version of Dark Tower V I bought it has a list of his writings, and it bolded the ones that tie into the Dark Tower series. Both the Regulators and Desperation are in bold, but I have of yet to see any tie ins
Maybe Tak will make an appearence in the final 2 books or something, I don't want to give any of the DT plot away to any of those who haven't read it yet, but I have a suspcision about a certain demon influence which plays throughout DT V and will most likely be a major part of VI if my hunch is correct

While I personally loved Gunslinger, the rest of the Dark Tower books have a much much different feel. I think that The Drawing of the Three is probably one of Kings best books period. The Wastelands feels more like a fantasy adventure, and I am just now starting Wizard and Glass.
Has anyone gotten to Wolves of the Calla yet? Is it awesome?

Yeah, Drawing of the Three is a damn fine book, one of my favorites as well
I've also read Wolves of the Calla, which is also a good read. Its plot was done well in itself, but in my opinion I think it was more of a jumping ground for the final 2 books, a lot of character and plot development. For any of you who've read 'Salems Lot you'll now find that the Priest, Callahan makes an apperance, and a significant part of the book tells his story
If you're wondering how he actually made it into the DT books and think its going to be some cheesey way to pull in a character, don't worry, its not. How he gets there is very interesting

Read all but the last Dark Tower and read Talisman and Black House. They tie in as does Insomnia and the Regulators and Desperado. And if you look back, I think a few more of his stories tie in.
And I have to agree with elhiggito, The Long Walk is my fave story... I got blisters on my feet while reading it.

It isn't but you're welcome to borrow my hardback - lent to Elhiggito - now possibly with White Wizard.
I'm about 3/4 the way through Vol 6 : "Song of Susannah" - IT ROCKS!!!!

I think specifics of Vol 5 content may spoil it for those who haven't read it yet.
Personally I enjoyed it a lot more than Vol 4 - even IF it didn't move the main plot much further forward. It answered a lot of questions and laid a lot of foundations for what is happening in Vol 6.
I think Vol 2 & 3 are my favoutite so far.

I really enjoy the dark tower series SOS(VI) is still boggling my mind, I love how he ties his other books in. I really enjoy the connections between Insomnia and the Dark Tower books. By the way if you are wondering how your favorite books tie in... there's a great page dedicated to it The Dark Tower.net Connections Page (http://thedarktower.net/connections/index.php)

I've heard good things about those two, my wife tried to start The Talisman and had a hard time getting into it so it scared me off of them a little. We have both books though so I better just hunker down and read them. Thanks for the recommendations!
