If you saw the title of this thread and asked yourself "What is Legacy of Kain" then you better take a step back re-evaluate your life right now. This game owns.
In the first game, Blood Omen, a noble Knight called Kain is murdered by thieves in a conspiracy to disrupt the order of Nosgoth (the most bad@ss place to live ever in the history of anything). Did he take that sword in his back lying down? Hell no! He made a deal with the devil and tore that stick out of his chest to come back as a vampire and ruin everyone's shi/. After he handed everyone a platter full of their own @ss with all the trimmings was told that to fully restore balance to Nosgoth he would have to kill himself. Not being a fool he choose to rule in hell rather than serve in heaven and as such he became the undisputed vampire lord over all of Nosgoth. If you like spells that burn, impale, flay, and obliterate then you will love Blood Omen despite it's primitive PS gameplay and graphics.
Following in suit The Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver introduces Kains lieutenant Raziel who surpassed his master, Kain, in vampiric abilities and the payment for his discression was to be cast into the abyss after having his wings ripped off being humiliated in front of his brethren. Did he take that lying down? Hell no! He made a deal with the elder god to return to the torn land of Nosgoth to hunt down his vampiric brethren and steal their souls to let the wheel of fate turn once again for balance to be restored. After whipping Kain's @ss in the time chamber he runs off into the past where Raziel chases him and the series is resumed in Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2.
But what happened in between the years of Kain's ascension? To find out you'll have to play Legacy of Kain Blood Omen 2 where you kick the snot out of an invading race of Hylden warriors.
Then Soul Reaver 2 fills in the blanks and Raziel fights himself in the past just so that one thousand years later he can be resurrected as a vampire lieutenant. Whoa, fatalism! All the philosophical undertones within these games are enough to make you kick your mom in the face (a la real ultimate power).
And if that wasn't enough everything is tied up in Legacy of Kain Defiance! I'm still playing this game, it's awesome, it owns. Go pick up a copy right now and once you master all five games in the series go commit sepukku after getting really super pissed because everything will be ruined after youplay these games. They're that good.
The voice acting, the gameplay, the story-epic, I could not do this game justice if I spent the whole day writing about it....
I better get back to work.
