Here's a good little site when you need a quick browse for some ab/core exercises to inject into your daily routine to keep it changing. It's got charming little animations that give you the basic idea along with a description.

Just one more thing to keep up the variations in the workout. :)

Try doing the V-up with an exercise ball (pass the ball back & forth from between legs to hands)! My abs are still killing me from doing it wednesday! :D

Yeah that is an ass-kicker. You won't see it much in gyms because it requires coordination and strength. It's a good one though for getting a rock solid mid section!:)

planche press ups and holds with my feet on a 70cm Swiss Ball on Monday killed me.

I could barely do V-ups using a medicine ball just keeping it in my hands...

I have learned to love my 1 pack :D

i've had a fair amount of those in my work outs. I don't do any of the medicine ball ones at the moment though.

I have a uber ripped six pack under my layers of lard :D

It's funny, because every time I walk into physio, they've found another one for me! I got the single-leg plank raise yesterday - on the exercise ball. Serious killer! :D

If I manage to eat clean for a few days I have a nice V-taper. 90% of the time that doesn't happen :P

I totally believe that everyone has a ripped 6 pack under the layers of lard :D

Thanks for the link Slip.

V-ups with a 10kg plate or medicine ball, works all the time.

Best way to develop your abs is by doing weighted core circuits, trust me they work!

Is it possible to get a six-pack without weights?
By that I mean just doing high reps of standard sit-ups, crunches, etc.
Will they be enough to develop the muscle to any noticable degree?

Maybe but what happens when you dont feel any ressistance after 200 crunches? You'd want to make it have resistance in order to make your workout harder. However try doing leg lifts on a chin bar, thats a good bodyweight excercise.

Also a six-pack is determined by a low body fat and good muscle definition. Ive seen people who have developed a great core by simply doing squats, deadlifts and overhead squats, some by bodyweights and some by weighted core circuits, its all about what suits you but one thing you should do if you want to be "ripped" is follow a good weight training routine and eat clean either maintain your low body fat or lose body fat you have at the moment.

God I want a 6-pack but I like food.

/sigh

It's generally true that a 6 pack is made in the kitchen not the gym. It's just that i like the kitchen a bit too much. ;)

Am I the only one who finds V-ups difficult to hold cos I always roll back or forward? I can't bloody stay in that 'perched' position for long. :(

I laugh every time I see stuff like this. Everyone wants a six-pack and I'd gladly give mine up if I could gain weight a little more easily.

Anyone can get a six pack...here in U.S. you just need to be 21 or older and have an I.D. to prove it (fake I.D. could work too) and few bucks. :)

I'll just add that no matter how many of these exercises you do you won't get six packs unless you either have good genes or have a lean diet. You will build up muscle, but if it's covered under fat it still won't look ripped.

Guys it ain't all that hard to get a sixpack. It's not down to some six pack giving gene or DNA... most people.. if they put in the time and effort can get more of one than they ever realized was possible... but like anything it requires the time and effort. There is always going to be a percentage of the population that has more smooth muscled stomachs... and they won't get that classic six pack look... but that's probably a rather small percentage.

Down at one of the rings where I was teaching average, everday working class joes.... I got more people closer to six packs than they'd ever thought possible. Why? Because it's a combo of having someone standing on their necks to actually do gruelling workouts (no one does them on their own) and so it means they were dropping the weight by sweating like dogs... and... I had them doing more crunchs and other core and midsection exercises in a single night than they'd done all year. Everyone hated it. Everyone moaned. They all looked like they were about to drop. But... they kept coming back... and you could see in the lockers that everyone over a course of time changed their physique in a large way. Why? Because they put in the time. Simple as that.

It's a balance of bodyweight and hard work to arrive at the visual look you want for your abs. To some it's not important to others it is... the whole reason the site was posted way back when was for those that want to put in the time and effort... for those who don't well... the world is full of people like that. Nothing new.

Thanks for the link Slip. That is a great list of exercises. When my back went out I started doing more of those very same routines. I agree with you. If you put in the time & do the right exercises you can get a 6 pack provided you don't eat like a glutten. My gut is pretty tight because when my back went out the physical therapist concentrated on getting my core stronger. I ain't gonna win no body building contest but for an old geezer I have a pretty good gut (I turned 60 last week). So if you do those routines religiously and don't gorge yourself - you can do it.

Thanks,
Tom

funny thing i noticed. my family is kinda known for their gut(especially us men) and i've always been an exercising person. but recently about 3 weeks ago i started up running because i realized my upper body was far stronger and out of proportion to my legs and since i've been running and keeping my diet clean i've noticed my six pack has started poking out nicely.

im not sure why since i don't do any core-specific exercises but i guess you can get a six pack without the hours of situps after all.:)

It's about body fat. I've seen crackheads with better six packs than some football players I've met who work out all the time.
