I have an interest in sport psychology applications within MA. I write a monthly column on the topic for Black Belt Magazine and I have a blog/website on which I post some of my articles: combatsportpsychology.blogspot.com

Are others on this forum interested in the topic?

I should imagine there's quite a few interested including myself.

There was an interesting article in the BBC Focus magazine, February issue I believe (out Feb 14th) about the physical limits of a human being according to biological/physiological limits. One section was about how hard it was possible for a human being to punch (in theory). I'll dig it out tomorrow when I've consumed less alcohol but our current world record was something like 2% of our actual potential before the bones shatter.

It's very vast and interesting subject!

Your column in BB Mag is excellent and very much appreciated. I constantly tell my students that your mind is clearly 99% of the fight. Visualization is a wonderful technique to use before competition. Any articles on mindset and preparation prior to tournaments would be great. Also, for older practitioners, howthe mindset that you are only as old as you feel would be great also. Thanks for all your work.

Victoria - I would be very interested to see the article if you can dig up a reference. I do have a broad interest in human performance, so it sound immensely interesting.

Karate Dragon - Thank you so much for your kind comments about the BB Column. I was beginning to think I was the only one that reads it.:) Interesting that you mention "visualization"- I am writing a column on the subject presently, though it will likely not make it to print until July.

Randy there also is a great old DVD "Gold Medal Workout For Combat Sports" by Dariusz Nowicki that you've probably seen- any thoughts? I wish they would teach more of this on the undergrad college level. My daughter is a Jr in kineisiology and they barely touch on this.

Now that I'm hungover and I can read the forums properly...

I appear to have misread "psychology" as "physiology" and posted something slightly off topic :o

Nevertheless, human potential is a very interesting subject and would perhaps make for a separate thread :)

Here's the link to Focus podcasts:

The article on physical limits should be discussed in the "March 2008" pod, not sure how much they go into but it might be worth a listen. Unfortunately I imagine you'd have to buy the Feb 14th issue itself to read the whole thing (a couple of pages). Or, :google: There should be a lot of information on the subject already floating around, possibly more reliable and in depth sources too.

I use sport psychology and NLP in my lessons and seminars. I also use them (to a lesser degree) in my articles, but you may not have spotted that.:)
