Today I got my surgey on my knee (to remove a torn meniscus) but when my surgeon came into to talk to me he found some more problems with the ligaments. He told me that there is a high possibilty of me getting a knee reconstruction. Im not too bothered by it too much but I means I'll have to stop thinking about doing martial arts that involve a bit of jumping in them. I still love stand up combat but I worried about what affects it would have on my knee in the future. Is there anyone here who have been in a similar experience or situation? ;)

I've had both of my knees worked on in '88 and '92. Both knee caps where replaced and the joints had to be re-aligned. I spent roughly 6-8 weeks in a brace and around a year with a wrap on my knee for stabilization when i did any major physical activity.

I had lost most of the muscle in my thigh and calf so I did allot of walking to rebuild the leg and started to do light runs in about 8 months of the operations. Since I was still in the military at that time it was essential that I could preform my duties and pass the yearly PT exam.

As for my MA training I did take time off but started back up around the time I started to run. I will take time but there is no reason that you can't do the same as you are doing now.
