View Full Version : MAP is back online!
Firstly, let me say thank you to everyone for their patience in sticking with us while we sorted this out. Me and Anth have seriously been working our bums off to bring MAP back online.
To fix the fault, we had to restore a backup of MAP from the 2nd of March. We've lost some posts and if you registered after 5am on the 2nd, you will need to re-register.
A week ago there was a fault with the database. We noticed only the new posts were showing up. Database faults have been coming more and more frequent, so I didn't think too much of it until the usual fixes didn't work. On checking the database, I found it was just over 200 megabytes in size, when it should be well over 1 gigabyte and we'd lost a massive amount of data.
Thankfully we had a backup and were able to restore it. The fault is still being investigated, but we've taken steps to prevent it happening again, one of which is finally upgrading MAP. Among other things, we have a new design, a few new features and plenty coming up in future. We've lost a few weeks posts, but the downtime gve us the chance to improve the site so something good has come out of it.

You guys have done an outstanding job.
Been there, done that, got a drawerfull of those recovery t-shirts, and it's not something i relish doing.

If you go to the skin chooser in the bottom left hand corner, there's a style called Classic MAP, which is the old MAP look, just in case this one isn't to everyone's liking.
Its not working perfectly yet as the background is a funny colour mind.

It is the much fabled upgrade to MAP! Its finally done. This should open up a whole new world for what we can do and where we can go from here ;)

Never though it would happen.
Me neither, and had the database not got nuked it wouldn't have been done now.
At least now we can keep on top of the latest upgrades when they come out :D

Sods law said that I came over ill yesterday afternoon so I got a text from Saz saying we were back.
Trust me, a heck of a lot of work went on behind the scenes, with the unsung hero being Sam (Skc_Wado) who has been learning the art of MAP Modification and doing a fair bit of testing :D
Its about time we got round to doing this upgrade - only been trying to get it done for the past 3 years...

As we've said in numerous threads about upgrading MAP, Journals have been our stumbling block for years in that we have been unable to find a way to convert them to the current styles.
That said, while we have kept a copy of the journal data in hope for the future, the old Journals will not be returning. It remains to be seen if we are going to implement a journal system any time soon.

If I could change one thing, it would be to waste less space at the top of the page. Could the home/faq/etc. links go to the right of the MAP logo?

Yea I second that, there are heaps of space next to the MAP logo.
