Hi every one,
I am a Pencak Silat practitioner; I am looking for a sparring partner who is interested in sharing experience. It will be one hour on Saturdays. I do have a suitable place.
I do not think that I will find another Pencak Silat practitioner, so if some one on another discipline (Karate, kung Fu, Tang So Do etc) is interested in point based sparring with no head strikes. let me know.
I am looking for some one in the 60kg-65kg weight category. We will be using protection gear (chest guard, shin guards and groin protectors).

Why no head strikes?
I mean, that's what human beings do when we fight. If you watch anyone from schoolyard brats windmilling on each other to top class Muay Thai fighters, you will notice that they spend a lot of time hitting each other in the head. It's like one of the quintessential parts of human-being style kung fu.

Hi,
I agree with you but the regulations of the sport version of Pencak Silat dose not allow head strikes. And as I have the habit of high kicks I want to get rid of that otherwise I will get disqualified from the any tournament really quick.
Pencck Silat Beladersi (self defence) of course dose not have this rule.

Are you training specifically for Silat competitions, then?
Because if you're main goal is self-defense or generally being a good martial artist, you really should be head punching in your sparring.

Well to be more specific, my goal of posting this invitation is competition training.

I'm surprised Silat has point sparring but does not allow head strikes even with full gear! Whereabouts do you live in Perth? Are you a student? My friends and I are from a diverse bunch of martial artists and we spar every Tuesday or Thursday evening on the UWA oval according to whatever rules. There is someone that comes there that would fit your kind of style.

In international silat competition (Persilat rules) the competitors don't wear gloves nor head protection. They 'only' wear upper body protection and protection for their manhood. So I do understand why they are not allowed to hit the head. In my modest opinion though it makes the sport deviate to much from the fighting art....

Well I must say there is a big difference between fighting with gloves on or off..even a hardcore fullcontact style like Kyokushin Karate does not allow punches to the face, because, like with silat, no gloves are worn.

Using (kick)boxing gloves makes the game quite different, although some thinner gloves like freefight gloves do make head-contact a little easier.

In the end...i agree with Pekir that sport deviates a lot from the fighting art.
