I've started to do this exercise (google it if you don't know what it is, it's impossible to explain) and seem to be getting some real good results from it. That and they're pretty damn hard with just 45 lbs!

I was wondering if anyone has done them for an extended amount of time and the results you have gotten from them and how much weight you can do with it. I'm up to 45 lbs with five reps on each side and I use dumbells.

I'm working these myself as of late... with even less weight! :D

I like the movement. But it took me a while to get it down. I had to have a mate who knew how to do them textbook perfect show me the details. But now I really enjoy throwing them in my program. I've now got a much bigger appreciation of the strong men from the days of old that used to pull them off with outrageous amounts of weight. I'm not anywhere near... lol... not even in the ballpark!

Besides it's great to see the faces on the PT idiots at the gym who really have no idea what they are. You know they go home and secretly try them with pink vinyl coated dumbbells in front of the mirror. :D

PS...
again I've tried to post a picture with this post.. but it's not an option.
When did this become part of the H&F forum?

That doesn't seem to be very helpful. Surely the ability to post pics would be a big help for topics here.

Oh man, I can only imagine what some people are thinking. I started doing them with 20 lbs and they're just so hard. There will be guys pushing military presses with 60 lbs for reps and then here I am doing 45 lbs turning red as a beat. It's great though and I can really see and feel the development in my upper back and shoulders as well as my lats and entire core and hamstrings and well . . . everything : P!

On of the SSft recruiters spent about 30 minutes with us explaining how to do them. He said when he was doing them his max was 160 lbs! He's half my size too!

Nice article you posted. The guy in the vid link is strong. Very cool. That's going to require some closer inspection to get my corkscrew right. hmmmm...

That's crazy stuff. I doubt I can even clean and press that amount.

Agreed (except maybe the 'can't clean and press it' remark ;) ). That dude is seriously rockin' the old school style. His form is straight out of Arthur Saxon's book. Solid.

I think my best bent press was with a 70-pound Powerblock for 3-4, but then I fell out of practice with it.

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/4344/kbinfobentpressix4.jpg

The technique I learned from a Mike Mahler seminar was like the photo above. Start like the pic on the left, begin bending sideways but keep the tricep of the loaded arm tight against the lats. When you're as deep as possible, it's almost like a triceps extension that gets you to the "midpoint" (photo on right).

From there, Mahler says to return upwards along the same path, almost like the top-half of a windmill. But Saxon says to then squat down (bending legs), and finally return up, a'la an overhead squat.

Any way you slice it, it's a monster movement.

If you do bent press with a barbell loaded like the guy in the clip, make sure you have written you will first.....

Looks like a very interesting exercise. Must blast the core to shreds.
