I only boxed for 6 months, but my power improved greatly. What made me hit with more power was being much more looser. Also, one trick I picked up from my coach is to keep your fist loose and let the snap close the fist at the moment of impact. Use that cocept for your pad drills. Finally, just wailing on the heavy bag, especially hooks.
Enjoy your training!

of course:
shadow boxing, heavy bag workout, push ups and pull ups.
I hope those few exercises help you.
but remember that technique is really important and you have to punch using your whole body weight in order to punch harder.

That's interesting. How do i keep my hands loose? But i guess i will have to do alot of core training. Thanks for your input i appreciate it.

Instead of keeping your fists tight, keep them unclenched, loose, space between your fingers. The punch goes out and like a whip you snap retract it, the motion causes the fist to close automatically. This snap will give you more power.

All the above said is true.
But if you are looking for a boxing specific weight training (that's why you created topic in this section, didn't you?) I would recommend dumbell snatches, heavy squats (don't recommend to do it if you sprint a lot... in this case you can replace it with a deadlifts), clean and press, weighted pull-ups, bench press, dumbell swings, different core exercises and...
all the stuff in this video:

But don't do too much of weight training. It's got to be 20% (max) of your overall training program (if you are going to become a boxer/kickboxer/thai boxer/whatever... not a weight lifter)

I have recently started doing boxing fitness in with usual TBD training, Alun decided that Carl Grant one of our instructors who holds a regular fitness class and has many years of boxing experience, should take the first first half hour of training, so we could all burn some fat off after christmas, fair do's i'm loving it, so much so that i have started doing boxing training with Marco Guy, another of our instructors with lots of experience at boxing. Carl has got his own website set up and should be updating it with advice on boxing and fitness techniques - www.totalgrant.co.uk so keep an eye out for updates. I know he suggests not clenching fist until moment of impact for better power. We do alot of squats for ducking under punches and coming up under pads with uppercuts, ideal for me being a short arse.
