what is eagle claw? is it a style that is very long range, is it a northern style or southern? is it a style comparable to a specific type of movement ( tae kwon do- kicking etc..) is it a type of martial art that involes alot of jumping around because i saw that in a kata that said it was eagle claw ( but then again i saw a kata that said it was kung fu when it was capoeria) does it invole the imatation of the eagle? or does it involve the fist and human stances.does it use low stances or high stances? i heard that it was a style with a lot of sweeping is this true? what kind of aspect does it emphasize( speed, power ect...) does anyone kno a site for it?
thannks for any help

From what I know: Low stance, speed, low kicks, fast hands, and claw hands. your hand is cocked back and your fingers are like a chanlban kwonsoo and pulled back and seperated and your thumbis also pulled back.,

Eagle-Claw is quite rare and is based on grabs and chin na. I like it and enjoy claw methods in my own style.

This is a good link: http://www.yingjow.com/

Some instructive pictures: http://www.worldeagleclaw.com/about.html

Here's a big video showing mad formwork and also loads of sparring of some kind*:http://www.sit.wisc.edu/~eagleclaw/demo.html

*the kind where you stop using your style and go kickboxing.

Eagle Claw includes punches, high kicks, sweeps, tumbling/acrobatics and other moves for long range fighting, but its specialties are: Na Mak(clawing pressure points), Da Mak(hitting pressure points) and Dim Mak(finger stabbing pressure points). These are all preformed at very close range. "Gin sau, yahp sau, sau cow sau" ("See the hand, go inside the hand, hand locks hand") instructs you to gain control by going in close to your opponent. At close range many styles lose their power, but Eagle Claw is at its strongest.

so let me get this st8: eagle claw is a long range style that exels in short range fighting, it has the punches and high kicks as wel as low. it uses low stances ( can someone tell me what that means exactly)and emphasizes the fingers and wrists.it has the basic weapon forms. i heard it was a flashy style lyk some wushu is it? and is it a stlye that mimicks the actions and movements of an eagle?

Wu Shu has an eagle claw form, but it mimicks the actions and movements of a flying eagle, i.e arms outstretched like an eagles wings, lots of swooping movements very flashy but not practical.

The other eagle claw style mimicks the grasping action of the eagles talon's i.e the eagle claw, very practical. I beleve one of the Lau sisters Lilly or Gini taught the practical applications of the art to the Taiwan police academy.

Wtf do you want, a mind-meld or Matrix download?

That's what school is for. Some of those sites offer videos if training is out of the question. Go google.

PS Forms, not katas! :woo:

Eagle is also split into Northern and Southern...so there's two major types of eagles.

The northern eagle has a lot of "Wing" attacks...and the southern has more grabbing attacks...at least that's what I hear...

i suspect that too because i have heard of two differant types : the prett wushu-lyk type with alot of flapping and running and the pressure point practical tumbling one

Ah I wondered if there were North/South versions! Nothing like confusion to create debate :)

I remember reading in a U.S kung fu mag that Lily Lau(Daughter of Lau Fat Man) saw a demonstration of Southern Eagle Claw in Kowloon's New Territory(Hong Kong) and she noticed that the majority of the techniques were that of Hung Gar and had very few eage claw chin na techniques.

I think most eagle claw is northern, just some people trying to get in on the fame by creating a new system(maybe, could be genuine)

"This school does not imitate all eagle's movements as many people might think, but only "borrows" the way that the proud bird of prey grabs and catches. So among the system characteristics are Diao, Zhua, Luo, (ways of grabbing and catching) and also Fan (hiting by turning the hand around ), Beng (explosive hit), Zhou (hitting with forearm), Kao (pressing or pushing). The practicioner should remember that the purpose is not to hold or catch, but to hit the opponent."

my family has been teaching eagle style for a long history of time and to what i know eagle claw has many things added to it in the old times it was created in both north and south in north they created it to win one on one fight and spys used it to assasin and protect themselves but in south they created to use on navy training, eagle claw attack and defence, and on a 1vs1 battle you have good advantage if you get good advantage

p.s.

i notice many of my fathers students wonder what should they do in case they were been attacked by many people in north schools that have eagle claw most of them teach you good kicks and balanced, kind of quick movements tho i would not recomend any form of eagle claw training if you cant kick and tend to use it for fighting a group of people but if it is just 1vs1 takes only 3months to train you good enough to use it ( and by the way i am not advertising for my dads martial arts school dont misunderstood me)
