Hi,

To improve my kicking for kickboxing I've been stretching in the evening when i'm not at training and one of the stretches I do is to go as far as I can towards splits, as I've got my flexible and got my legs wider I have noticed as I approach my limit I get a pain on the inside of my right knee. Is this something to do with my lack of flexibility or something else?

Thanks

this could depend on which splits and how you are doing - is it the box splits or front splits - if the front splits then which leg forward?

Are you stretching cold or do you warm up before hand?

I'm not sure what typpe of splits, legs going out to the side of the body not forwards.... I'm guessing that is box splits?

I'm probably not warmed up very well thinking about it, it's normally after I get back from the gym but not straightaway.

you're not warmed up enough. what's happening is once you get your legs streached out you got your heels planted in place, but the rest of your legs are still trying to close shut. And what's the weakest part of the leg from ankle up? Your knees. That's why you feel the pain there. Be sure to warm up more and next time don't go to full split that you can. Instead open them a couple of feet and lean forward and streach, then open wider and do the same, etc, ect. Good Luck. :)

Thanks, after thinking about it a bit more when stretching at the end of kickboxing I can stretch further without the same pain so it sounds like you're correct.

Thanks
