I was thinking about adding good mornings to my routine but I got to thinking about them. From my understanding, you are supposed to keep your knees straight during the exercise, so won't this put extra stress on the knee joint? I know you should not lock your knees while squatting because of the stress that locking out puts on your joints, but does this translate to good mornings? I'm looking for a good hamstring exercise and the best I can think of are good mornings but I don't want to end up putting unnecessary strain on my knees. What do you guys think of them in terms of injury risk factor? What are some other good hamstring exercises?

There's nothing wrong with bent leg GMs. Or there's always the squat/GM hybrid movement. Romanian deadlifts (as mentioned) are always an awesome movement.

What I like about bent leg GMs is you can go a bit heavier and get more explosive with your hip drive.

First read the article "Third World Squats" on T-nation. Then when you get the flexibility to do a full A2G squat on your heels you'll start feeling weighted squats in your hams hardcore, I did anyways and I've been getting good results. I was even sore in muscles I didn't even know I had in the back of my leg.

There is another exercise I saw on T-nation for hamstrings though that consist of you getting on your knees and placing your feet under something heavy and then SLOWLY lowering yourself to the floor and back up. If you can find that article good on you but I don't remember what it was called. I tried the exercise and felt an incredible pull in my hamstrings and I couldn't even do one repetition.

To me the deep squats with superior form and the other exercise are superior for the hamstrings but it may be just because I like them better then good mornings or roman deadlifts, they also seem safer to me. Good luck though!
