Yohan your kicking my butt with all this free Nutrition info! cheers buddy! ;)

One thing though, i thought too much protein was bad for you, and was proven to do more harm than good? plays havoc with the kidneys?

i've taken upwards of 300g easy a day, sometimes 400g.

i drank 3-4 litres of water a day however

the concentration of urea is diluted obviously with more water intake, so keep chugging the H20

Kidney stones are a side effect of a high protein diet - IF the water intake is low

Can your body actually absorb that much in one day?
I seem to remember reading (somewhere!) that there's little point eating more than 40g per meal, as your body just excretes it after a certain threshold.

spread over 7 meals a day
better to have too much than not enough - if water intake is high

I probably take in 200-300 (40-60g/meal, 5 meals/day) grams of protein every day and I weight about 200. No kidney stones yet!

you also realize that your body uses only so much protein a day and the rest is converted to fat?

so you may have a low fat intake but if your protein exceeds the body's requirements it will store that extra as fat

Isn't that the same with any calorie source?

What about timing your protein consumption? Do you think there is a big difference in protein consumption if you do it directly after a workout?

Could we split this thread to continue this discussion?

Yes, that is correct with excessive calories


I know that carb loading/ carb depleating is done but protein is'nt broken down as fast as carbs so you would have to experiment with it to see what works best for you

I hardly consume any carbs at all.

Gatorade during workouts, and I do high GI carb meals after workouts sometimes, but other than that, I don't do any carbs.

I consume loads of protein (like I said, 200-300g a day) and I'm still losing weight.

if you are'nt consuming any carbs then your diet is'nt healthy!!!

your diet needs to include carbs,proteins and fats

sure your losing weight and evrything seems to be hunky doery but can you eat like that for the rest of your life?

once you get to the weight you want you need to re-evaluate your diet and balance it out

but that just my oppinion :)

Ok I mis stated it - I don't consume any non-vegetable carbohydrate sources outside of gatorade or after workouts.

two people

person 1: takes in a high protein diet and exceeds his daily requirement for growth and repair. He puts on a fair few lbs of fat in the process of his bulking diet but his muscular growth is also exponentially increased.
After 2 years or so of solid mass gaining he re-evaluates his situation and proceeds to trim the calorie surplus and reduce the fat.

person 2: trys to avoid excess fat gain and tries to maximise muscle growth.
In two years time he is still no where near the size of person one nor has the same levels of strength.



you've got to be willing to put on a few lbs of fat IMO if you want notciable gains otherwise you'll be thrashing away for years with diminished results

Back in 2001 i got on a high protein diet 300g a day and lower my carbs and replace most high glycemic carbs with fiber and veggies.

My body was amazing, its not 100% low carb but the effect was there.

More protein does have an effect on total body mass for sure.

Has for the side effects like Incredible Bulk says you gotta to drink you water and a lot of it.

I did not have any side effects either.
