In the MA's circle there are lots of talk about the filipino systems being exceptional with the weapons training.

But in your opinion how good do you feel the ninjutsu weapon systems. And what weapons do you learn - both initially(beginning) and advanced.

I give most praise to the weapons work of Ninjitsu and this is where 90% of my experience has come from.

Big up!

yeah, that confused me too dragon bunny.

xplasma, forgot the maniriki (similar to the kusari-fundo but with handles at the end instead of the geometeric shaped weight) in the weighted chain section. Plus, some schools teach the jutte (similar to the sai but missing a prong), tessen (iron fan) and kunai (small knife about 3" long, used for digging/prying). Plus, some others have aren't taught anymore to my knowledge (ono....).

I wouldn't feel too upset at being 'crap' at throwing shuriken. Shuriken were used more for distraction and to frighten the enemy and make him hestitant than to inflict any real damage.

We have shuriken throwing sessions in our dojo and we are all rubbish, so I wouldn't worry, you're not the only one.

i agree with peaceful tiger im not that good at it either, although my teacher can hit a target from accross our dojo, but my teacher just tells me we all have our specializations that we are better at, for example im really good at hambo while my friend is really good with kusari-fudo(wieghted rope or chain)

the trick is to find what your better at practice it still and work on the stuff your not good at.

I really got to check this stuff out ... but the weapons training (especially throwing weapons) are they far on ? Like do you have to train for many years before you get to use any throwing weapons ?

Nah, the thing about ninjutsu, or at least in my experience is, you get to learn weapons training more or less straight away.

Greg, before you train with live shuriken do this.....

Get a few business cards, on the shorter side hold one tip with you thumb and middle finger and place you index finger on the edge of the other tip. Practice spinning them. Do worry about distance. Eventually put you hips into it for a bit of distance. Then throw the live shuriken the same way.
