What with all the various threads on Chi, religion and the occult, I am curious to see who believes in what and how superstitious people are.

Interesting poll.

I like how skewed the little bars are when only a couple of people have voted.

Surprising how little response there is when people are metaphorically brawling about these very matters over on other threads!

Hey, I went and put my few checks in. I will add that, for the most part, I didn't check some things not because I don't believe that they are possible, but because I am skeptical of them. Actually, the only ones that I flat out don't believe are the ones about science knowing it all some day (I don't believe that it's possible to have ALL the answers) and the one about the FBI having all the answers.

Ah, but then that depends on what the questions are...

Superstitious is usually how we see other people and not ourselves.

Many people believe that the belief in God is superstition.

Only a fool will not consider something to which he knows nothing about.

I... don't see how this has to do with superstition...

Superstition is the amount of belief you have that other variables control your life. i.e. you are *destined* to explode while eating a carrot.

All that stuff you put has nothing to do with it.

Superstition: belief in magical and other similar influences; idea or practice based on this.
Superstition is a term used by critics for a belief that is not based on reason. This belief may be faith based on revealed truth or it may be related to magical thinking. Critics argue that it arises from ignorance or fear.

As shunyadragon said, it is a term people do not generally apply to themselves, but all of the options could be considered to be superstitions.

I agree that my title for this thread was incorrect, but not for your reasons; I simply think that "How open-minded are you?" for example would have been a better title, as inviting people to say they are superstitious will not encourage them to do it, as they do not always see themselves as superstitious.

su·per·sti·tion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (spr-stshn)
n.
An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.

NONE of those are saying that they influence anything. Just that they are.

am i superstitious? well....a good question

aliens....i don't have a strong view on this one, but they probably exist. the universe is a vast space, so why not?!

telepathy...my best friend and i often phone each other at the same time, we often send sms to each other at the same time, we often say the same things at the same time. is this telepathy?

i don't believe that i'll have bad luck if a black cat crosses the road in front of me...i don't believe in such things

so, i would say that i am not a superstitious person, but then again whenever i pack my bag for competition i pay a lot of attention to my dobok. i never wear it dirty, but never after washing it either. i wear it twice for training after i washed it and then pack it. is this superstitious, u decide! :D it's not that my performance depends on when i washed my dobok, no, but after a while i have noticed that i always do the same thing :D

i agree with the matrix, if you believe you can do anything. however i don't believe in god, if he exists how come he leaves the world in such a sad state?

So, since if you believe you can do anything, and there are known cases where people have believed themselves to be god, why isn't there a god?

Which mars lander? The last two (almost 3 if the Euro didn't fail) didn't find anything...

FBI and Aliens have nothing to do with superstition, I believe though that there is life on other worlds though not as developed as we are. The universe is vast, yes; but look at how perfect our world had to be for us to develop.

there is a woman who is into weird stuff and btw she is really weird. once this woman was travelling with a friend of hers (also a woman). and this friend of hers started complaining about her headache, and the woman asked her if she was for any reason jealous of her. her friend was really surprised by the question and answered no. that woman explained her headaches in the following way: they were both travelling, and she spent more money than her friend, and she bought more stuff than her friend, so her friend is jealous of her. but this woman received sometimes before in her life negative energy directed to her on purpose from other people so she found someone who put some things inside of her body which reflect that negative energy. so the reason why her friend was having a headache is because she directed her jealousy to that woman and that jealousy got reflected and re-directed to her friend which caused those headaches.

ha ha ha imagine that!!! :D
