I have met many female TKD instructors and find them to be excellent.
Just never met any females who opened a school.

I know of one school that was opened by a female 3rd Dan in California, near Watsonville. She is my and her MA promoting master, I don't know who is the master of there household. Yes, they are "life partners", their term not mine. He is more philosohpy based, she is more sports based.

Times change. My Godfather came to this country from Czech., and his H.S. teachers told him not to think about college, because the only jobs for Czechs and Poles were in the coal mines. I'm glad he didn't listen to that teacher....I think he enjoyed his career a lot more than coal mining.
When I was in jr. H.S., I wanted to get involved in the space program, but at the time, there were no female astronauts. I figured that by the time I graduated from college, there either WOULD be, or I could be the first. After getting a PhD in physics and spending 7 years in the US Air Force, I could have achieved my goal (AND I wouldn't have even been the first!), but my priorities changed. I shot for the stars (literally), and landed just south of the moon.
If this is your dream, you CAN do it. You will need a passion that only comes from a sense of "calling". By that, I mean do you have the sense inside your very being that this is part of the reason that you were created on this earth? If so, I believe you can overcome any obstacle. Still hesitant? Start by working under someone else, helping with teaching in their dojo/dojang/studio. (You'd have to do this anyway, to make a good start of your own school, plus you'll pick up many do's and don't's that can save you a lot of pain on your own.) Still concerned about what others will think and if you'll be accepted/respected? Specialize in after-school programs for children. At some point, though, no matter who you are and what you do, you will HAVE to stand up to people's opinions and all their ideas of why you are wrong.

Not a MA instructor. Just someone who's been around the block enough times to know that sometimes that's just the way life IS.

At our school, we have our master and two senior instructors... I am one and the other is a woman who is extremely talented and gifted in the martial arts. (Check the Photos section for her picture)
I think if you are dedicated and train hard with the goal of being an instructor, some day you will fulfill that dream. I wish you the best.

MAN I hate it when people say "boys can, girls can't" or "girls can, boys can't." Those people are living in the stone ages IMO, no not just IMO it's the undiniable truth. Sure, some anatomy is different, but nothing major enough to warant a ban on female teachers!!!

Oh come on Tiger, everybody KNOWS that all the good instructors are men!!!! *ducking from kickchick* Actually some of the best instructors I know are female. They seem to be more patient and less macho about things. More power to you and good luck.

Good, I was worried. Sometimes I say things REALLY sarcastically and don't really want to be taken seriously. I like to tease...too much free time I think...

In my organisation there is a fifth dan female intructor who started and still operates her own club with 100+ students. I had the pleasure of recieving her instructions at a recent seminar and hope to again in the future. We also have a number of first and second dan female instructors at several clubs in the area, including mine. No problems whatsoever. In fact, I don't really see any issue at all?

i have taught tkd for 3 years and love it. i do mainly teach the kids but that can be really challenging at times. i have taught the adults when my instructor was out of town or asked me to and kids are definitly harder to keep control of but i make it fun so they do pretty good with me. i do plan on opening a school soon.

My instructors wife teaches TKD (3rd degree). She has her own school.
She is a very good instructor and has trained many students to 1st/2nd degree.
I have no problems with women instructors at all. If my organisation decides that someone is able to teach, that is good enough for me.

My fifth Dan master is a woman and she can teach very well (Although my instructor is a male 3rd Dan).
I don't see a reason to discriminate here, men and women are equally able to do TKD. I say go for it if that's what you want to do but get the proper qualifications and experience first and make sure you teach quality material. Don't let the side down by producing students with little understanding and poor technique.
Good luck! :D

I know you're not serious about that comment.
But it takes me on to slightly related topic. The other week I had to sit in a meeting with load of oring farts to do with the organisation/administration of my county's rugby. One of the officers there mentioned the success of a tournament involving several hundred womens players on a particular weekend.
Of the old farts said, in relation to the number of women...
With all the women there, the kitchen must have been crowded
 I was in shock for the entire meeting at the comment. It was clear that they meant it too. :woo: :bang:
It made me glad that MA has a positive attitude to gender diversity.
Well.... after a whole year.... did she open the school or what? :D
