Each time i wanted to get my cardio back on track or lose some extra pounds i always did it with either the first tae bo vhs series that came out in 1998, the bootcamp dvds that came out in 2005 and am very impressed about the new AMPED series.

I know that there is serious confusing among people doing tae bo and acutually thinking they will be able to defend themselves.

Its not a martial art for sure but when it comes to training intensity it can not be overlooked.

In the new Amped series there is a tone of work done in the mid section, lovehandles, deltoids, triceps and biceps, when its time to amp it up you do the moves really fast with the amp bar 8 sets of 8.

In the bootcamp dvds you do a lot of push ups, squats and ab work, you punch with the resistance bands and a lot more.

I am 35 years old and coming back from a long back pain injury, i needed to lose weight, regain flexibility, get harder and seriously work on my cardio that was gone for almost six years. Getting back in shape when you are older is a lot harder then when you are in your teens or mid twenty, lets just say that the weight doesnt come off instanty.

I just never beleived in low intensity training sitting on a bike riding for 45 minutes stayring at the wall, not for me.

With a proper diet i manage to go from 220 pounds to 203 in three months, i just started ampled last week and already lost 7 pounds, took me more then a month to lose that much doing stationnary bike and walking and a bit of weight training.

Lets just say that for now i plan on adding Amped to my regular training regiment, with weight training and more cardio from the Bas Rutten training cds.

The full thruttle cd will get your heart rate pumping and sweating in less then 11 minutes.

Hey good for you yannick. If you've found a great cardio tool that works for you, good! :)

I'm not sure what you mean by 'everyone turning their backs on Tae Bo'? No one is saying that it isn't a valid cardio workout and as you have already said, its not a martial art and is not a self-defence tool.

P.S. - I can get my heart rate pumping in less than 2 minutes. I don't think sweating and speed at which you get your heart rate up are very good indicators of the effectiveness of your workout. You have to look at duration, the type of exercises you're doing, intensity, your current level of fitness etc.
Again, I'm not bashing Tae Bo, just careful of your generalisations :)

Thanks for the reply Lily, no it just seems to me that Tae Bo is more geared toward women thats all, i used to go to a tae bo class back in 1998 it was free because i was a gym member so i would weight train and then rather then site on a bike i would get a good hour and a half of tae bo, there where about 20 women in the class and we where like 3 guys? i tried to get one of my friends to try it but he said he would rather do the stationnary bike then go to a tae bo class? that same person cried out that he never got a set of abs well there is good diet for this but high intensity cardio will also play a big part in getting some serious abs.

Has for heart rate its true that pertty much any intense exercise will do the trick but for me i rather do some Amped tae bo lot more fun.

Also i forgot to mention that for me its great rehab, because there are a lot of exercise that my chiro asked me to do to work my pelvic region and strenghten my core, you see i injured my pelvic while i was squatting and deadlifting back in 2001 and it stayed unajusted for a long time, got it worst when i went to see my first two chiro.

I am going on one year of treatment twice a week with my current chiro and the work he did on my posture is amazing, now that i can be active again he told me to lose the unwanted pounds, at 5 feet 10 and 220 pounds which is was not to long ago does put a strain on the whole body.

I can simply cross my finger and hope to hit 185 pounds before the end of January 2008 when i want to start kenpo karate, even then i will not give up the tae bo.

It's a bit like body combat- that seems to be the more popular thing at the moment. It does concern me that a couple of places I have seen advertise it as a "none contact martial art" which is utterly stupid! I go twice a week,it's fun and an ok workout too. If you enjoy tae bo keep at it! I got the dvd a couple of years ago but didn't really have the space or the inclination to do it. I think as long as you are getting a decent mix of training then it's all good.
Just make sure you don't get into wearing tight lycra shorts :D

I reckon that something like tae bo or body combat is probably a very good supplement to martial arts. I imagine it'd do good things for your endurance.

Tell you what, press ups/sits ups at the end of a combat class are WAY harder than at the start of my kung fu class! It's quite amusing watching the other women try and throw a punch, but yes an hour or so is a pretty good cardio workout.

i'd see if you can't find a local place that does body pump....its a new thing here and i don't know alot about it, but from what i understand its a very fun full body cardio workout w/ light weights. like i said its very new and just catching on here, but its fairly old in general, so give it a shot.

Hello yannick35,
Well I think everything has its run time as people get board with something they move on.

You need to know I have never done "Tae bo". I do "boxing training" and honestly prefer it this several years after having started it. That means I learned it as a kid. It has what is, I think they call it interval training contained in it. This is pretty much what I have seen people doing in "Tae bo".

Question am I wrong?

Boxing we do like 20 minutes of jump rope through a set of rounds at 3min. in length. Than we shadow box for 30min with 3 to 5min rounds. Than we would do like light weight with certain arm excersies for another 30 min in rounds again of 3 to 5 min.. This would lead up to hitting the heavy bag in round again that end up as 30 min in 5 min rounds. Average boxing training is like 3 hours of solid workout that has very short breaks. I left out the leg work that goes with this.

From what I saw people doing in Tae bo the same just shorter overall time.

It is the same kinda right?

I think things that are knew have a better attendance than thing that have been around for a while. That which is cool will always be fad based things. You know what is in. I think in any one boxing class in America where I have been there at most have been less than maybe 10 people. The classes for like real training in boxing even less. I guess maybe in Philadelphia it may be different or New York City. Kansas City very few attend one class at any one time.

What I have seen "Tae bo" do is excellent training over all for the body to learn to get in shape. The thing that I think needs the most focus is the food, at least for me.

I always found it funny when asked if you do martial art and people say I do Tae Bo. It's a great work out, I even used it my self, but it is no martial arts. But who know maybe it can evolve into one. That is how kung fu started.
