If your just a dragon ball punk go to http://www.toysrus.com
Trust me, it's ALOT safer. And Trunks from dbz uses a simple broad/long sword. European design. Just go to the toy store and get a fake night sword, dye your hair pink, and pretend to fly

Hey If he wants to learn MA because he was inspired by DBZ lets try not to crush his spirit tto much.
I mean he hasnt done the stereotypical "I wann fire chi blasts" yet. At least I dont think so. Has he?
And DBZ is.......amusing to watch. :D
Anyhoo

i think you guys should really shut up.
when i said i power up i was joking.
and i was also sorta joking when i said i wanted trunks' sword.
and im 14.
i dont want to be a cartoon character and i do watch dbgt from time to time, so what.
just because i do martial arts and i will have a sword doesn't mean you can just put two and two together and assume i want to be trunks.

Yeah, we're all idiots here :p
Some people will always take you seriously, well, only when it gives them a chance to post a birdge or a troll... :p
Its seems your interested in learning a sword form, so here's what you can do.
Find a school that teaches a sword art, ask them waht type of sword you should get, talk to them about different types of blades and swords and so forth.
Buy a shinai, a bamboo sword, for practice so you don't break/wear/dull/chip/ruin your real sword. Alot of schools teach with Shinai before letting there students use real blades anyway.
So do that, then come back give us the info, like the sword style you have looked at going into, and we'll do what we can to help you with whatever you need from them on.
:)

THE REASON I SAID I POWER UP WAS BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD MAKE AN OK JOKE, SINCE MY AVATAR IS TRUNKS AND SO IS MY NAME, AND SINCE THATS WHAT THEY DO IN DRAGON BALL Z, I THOUGHT I'D SAY IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY!

Gee Trunks, grow some skin boy. You post something meant as a joke, we respond in a typical maner, you whine about us flaming you. All we can tell about you is what you post. We don't get to hear you tone or see your expresion. By the way your posts are, we (wrongly) assumed you were a young kid taking cartoons too real. We aren't trying to discurage you, we just don't want to point any REAL 8 yo. kids in the direction of cutting themselves up. We, well at least I, meant no offence. The IM and whining only makes you seem more childish though. Really, I can't tell if your a serious MA, or a kid in line to hurt himself by anything other than your posting skills. Sorry if you take this stuff hard.:D

say now, chi isnt fake. Maybe not powerful enough to blow up a planet in one man's hands but its real. I have done some research on it and have done alot of meditation and use of it. there are different kinds of chi users, some push chi out in a powerful form and some absorb it for physical strength but if u r an absorber it can hurt u to take to much and if you can push it out, learn a grounding technique or you will get very tired and possibly sick from loss of energy.....

it is spelled ki.
sensu bean. you sure know alot about that show maximicus.
how on earth do you absorb energy?!?
Maximicus
14-Jan-2004, 08:38 PM
DBZ is Japanese, so they use the Japanese word, Ki. Ki, Chi, Qi, and maby more, are all the same thing.
Dark Blade
15-Jan-2004, 05:05 AM
Indeed.
Ki is Japanese
Qi Is Chinese
Chi Is how we pronounce Chi (I think)
And is Chi is Thai for Piss.
All of them basically mean, "Internal/vital/ energy"
Except the Thai one....
So, trunks, you were still technically right. Ki is indeed spelt, Ki.
And absorbing energy is easy!
You just have to smoke...I mean...err.. eat a couple more...umm....sensu beans.

Ki as Japanese
Qi as Korean

Hi, everyone!
I'm trying to get some info on the differences between the Korean sword styles and the Japanese ones, and I would like some input from those who do iado, kendo, kumdo, haidong gumdo, and any other sword 'do'. Thanks in advance.
(FYI, I am involved in a class that mixes Korean Kumdo and Haidong Gumdo.)
I have already found out that Japanese Kendo and Korean Kumdo are virtually indistinguishable, and checks of any websites on either one will provide a lot of nationalistic banter about who had what first. I have also figured out that iado is usually concerned with just the draw technique, and an immediate 'kill' (I believe the history was it was developed for the palace guard?).
In Haidong Gumdo, we practice full patterns (like kata in Karate or poomsae in TKD). What is the equivalent japanese sword art that includes full kata, or is there one? Can anyone recommend a good website on it, for more info?
We also practice step-cutting. This is a very formal, almost ritualistic type of form, with two people (attacker and defender), a total of four steps in, a strike, then a retreat. I recall seeing a video of something similar in a Japanese art once. Is anyone aware of this, or does anyone know what this art is called in its Japanese form?
