yup its now less than two weeks away i don't know about everyone else but excitment is flowing through my vains at this very moment.
Not sure what to expect mind you seeing the changes that have been made so far and i can't see them fitting the end of the two towers and most of the Return of the king stuff into one film. no doubt as usual the extended version will be vastly better and will actually capture the spirit of the books.
what are your thoughts expectations.
Hmmm...
I've waited 8 months for each extended version.
Now, I don't know if I should wait 8 months or more for the extended "Return of the King", or - watch it in the cinema without Saraumon/Chris Lee.
Toughie...

I'll go anyway but i'm not overly happy about Saruman being cut out okay he doesn't play a huge role in the book and since he took out all the going back stuff it isn't needed so much but that part of the story could do with a bit of closure

Hmm.... I'm not toi bothered about not seeing Saruman -they kill him off just outside Isengard anyway - there is no "Scouring of The Shire"
I'm looking forward to seeing how they do the paths of the dead.

AAAAHHH!!!
The raising of the shire was one of the best parts of the book! It showed how much the hobbits had grown (Pippin and Merry literally! :) ).
Gimme some Ent draught! :D

What's this about extended versions? You mean, it might actually be worth watching in these full versions?

I thought the first film far excelled the second, although the TT was still good. Only thing i didn't like was the orcs talking to each other in cockney accents and moaning about how tired they were after travelling.
They were far more menacing when they said nothing at all and seemed like they could go on indefinitely.

The Fellowship has I think about an additional 20 minutes.
The Two Towers has 42 mins.
Isn't really necessary for the plot. These are parts (and sub-plots) that Jackson had to cut to make the film time fit for the cinema.
However, helps to make a little bit more sense - and well, sends your arse to sleep a little bit longer.

personally i don't think you get a genuine feel for the story if you haven't either read the books or watched the extended versions which are far more faithful to the books in general

I read the books about 15 years ago. Can't remember much about them - except the dang endings!
Means I know exactly how it's gonna finish half way through the end. :)
Couldn't even remember gandalf turning into the white wizard.
I was planning to pick up the books - but remembering how much of a chore parts of the books are, I wisely put them away again - and stuck to Harry Potter :)

Yep, that's how I feel too.
Call me a loon, but I never read the books. I'm sure enjoying these movies even without the extended scenes.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it too since it was filmed here!!
And just for your info the nicest horses used in the filming were mostly Andalusians!.
Gandalfs horse in particular is a lovely Andalusian stallion. I'm very biased because these are what I train, breed & own. The other ones were racetrack rejects mostly.
The swords and armour were made especially for the film, as was all the strapping used on the horses etc. They had a full time saddler onsite for about 2 years during the making of the film just making gear for the horses so it looked real.
My company has sold a bit of stuff to WETA productions - they did the special effects, it was used in some of the machinery....

Well i'm back after the LOTR marathon. By that i mean i went to see Extended Fellowship followed by Extended Two Towers. Then i saw Return of the King today. Truely great film it may have been 3 and a half hours but there was so much more they could have put in.
My main problems were Denethor wasn't done very well. It wasn't dark enough. and their wasn't any real dispair in the battle of pelannor fields.
these are pretty minor complaints from what was otherwise a fantastic film only problem now is that it is all over :(

I really do hope it is 5 hours because then they could really do it justice. I mean it was great but it did feel a bit rushed

Not watching it though...3 and a half hours...no chance.

There are very few films that make me gasp and make me stare open mouthed at the screen.
This does... the scale of the film is bigger than anything else I have ever seen in the cinema.
I'd say it's the best of the lot.

The best film and the most disappointing. Best film I've ever seen, but disappointing in terms of comparison to the book.
It's very rare that a film surparses a book, Shaolin Dragon. Perhaps the extended edition may do the book more justice? ;)

I think fans of the books are never going to be completely happy with the films. That said, they are still the best films I have ever seen.

Just came back from watching it and it's bloody fantastic!!!
Even better than i thought it was going to be.
The battle scenes were great, I want a sword to go killing orcs....
:D
I'm a fan of the books and although there were some differences, on the whole the film is everything I'd hoped for and then some!

I supoose I can live with that... but still unhappily.
We still wait the same amount of time since the release of TTT as everyone else. So we're not loosing out any :).

I agree.Altho it was a great fim it came no where near to the books.Obvisouly.
I thought that denathor looked almost exactly like how i imagined him (altho i thought he was a bit thinner) but every scene with him in it felt really rushed which didn't happen with theoden. Especially when he burned himself. I don;t know alot of small things but it owuld be inpossible to ake it properly.
two biggest things missed: scouring of the shire
Breaking of sauraman staff.

Well that just shows how you compare books and films.
All three are amazing films, and I think for a change, this is the best film in a great trilogy. Go see it.......... over and over...........
