I just had my first BJJ seminar, and I had a blast! The speaker was Carlos Gracie Jr., and he was concentrating on competition. He went over some theory, some takedowns, and worked in half guard. It was pretty nuts, with about 90 participants, but great fun with some new ideas.
I do have a point, really. At the end of the seminar, while eating up the BBQ, we chatted about what we had done. Someone called and asked what he missed, and we tried to fill him in. I feel like I lost a bunch of great information just because if was about 3 hours of material and some of it leaked back out of my ears. How do I retain the most information in a seminar? Do you recommend taking notes, even though we were doing some rolling? If so, how do you keep up, or describe a throw on paper? I wish we had a video, but who wants to miss the event so they can run the camera? I'm sure that some of the members here have done seminars before and might have some suggestions on how to get the most out of this kind of opportunity.
