Hi, me and Col got back tonight. I'm sure he'll detail his magnificent plan once he gets near a computer.

Freeform
23-Dec-2003, 01:42 PM
There's a plan?!?

News to me! :D

Anybody needing a floor to crash can stay a mine if you've got a sleeping bag, I do have a sofa bed and a futton so you can fight for them! heheheheheheh!

I was thinking of maybe a pub crawl followed by a club, or would people rater stay in one pub for the night?

teacher
23-Dec-2003, 06:45 PM
Some of us out of towners are hoping to come through. It might be easier if the group stays in one place at least for the first hour or so so that latecomers dont have to go on some weird MAP-hunting pub crawl.
Even a pretty crappy McPub, if it is easy to find, would be better than a brilliant pub that gives away beer and has staff of the loosest morals imaginable that no-one can find in the dark narrow lanes of Auld Reekie.

Ooh, I forgot to mention, I'm getting two hrs of mat time on the Saturday morning! It'll be about 11am for a MAP hungover open mat!

LBR's already agreed to the double leg challenge. I do a double leg takedown on him, land on him and see what comes out his mouth! :D

The mat time will be there for a completely informal session, just to mix and train with each other ;)

Oh the exact plan as it stands.

Friday 9th Jan,

8pm at Frankensteins pub on George IV bridge in Edinburgh, I've reserved a table for twenty and have some sandwiches and sausage rolls too! :D

Pub closes at 1.30 am, so we can stay all night or go round to its sister nightclub Espinonage (sp?). A group as big as us may have trouble getting in though ;)

Saturday 10th Jan

11.15 - 13.15 I've booked that HWU sports hall 2 for an open mat session, all welcome. No fixed format just come and have a laugh.

And the current attendees are

Me
Fluffydoc + a couple of Wing Chunners
Andy
Teacher
White Wizard
Dexter
Tintin + a couple of his students
Tosh + a couple of his students
Silver_no2
Greyghost
Gandi
Timmeh!
Bunny + Wife
CraigWarren

So looking pretty healthy ;)

I'd just like to say that the atmosphere on the mat on Saturday morning was brilliant. As the people there knew, I'd not actually planned anything. My hopes came true when the group broke up into 3/4 smaller groups of people going over particular areas/styles.

Thanks have to go to everyone there for making it a great session but particularly Andy Murray for showing some stick work, Martin for the Aikido, Jimmy for the CKD and Mark for the groundwork/grappling.

Cheers guys.

Oh, and Fraser for the 'lightsabre' fight ;)

OK so while the day's still in everyones mind, how about we start planing the next one. Don't have a clue how to do a poll or a sticky so if anyones interested & one of the mods can set this up please do.

I also think we should make this a Roving event. gives us a chance to widen the group of Mapers that have met & gives me an excuse to get drunk in a new area when I can make it :D.

I'm willing to try & set up one in glasgow some time end of March/start of April. ie 19-03, 20-03, 27-03, 02-04 or 03-04 ( please note I have omitted the 26th as this is my dearly beloved's birthday & she'd kill me :( )

If we do it on the Friday again I think I can swing a hall for a MAP open mat as well.

What do ya'll think then

LilBunnyRabbit
11-Jan-2004, 08:06 PM
Can't you rove it down South a little? Glasgow's just a little out of the way for those in Wales and England. Maybe London would be good. :D

It might be worth having it more central though, so that more people from outside Scotland could get there.
